So what is my question?
A lot of the telephones in the Netherlands have a recognition of the
number that is calling them, for example they see the number +86 1111
1111 on the display. I don’t want them to see we are calling from
China. So I want the phone in the Netherlands to display ‘private’ or
‘unknown’ when I call them. Does anyone know how, or with which
program I can do this?
I called China Telecom to block the ID for my landline outbound calls.
But according to them in China this is impossible. China Telecom know
in Europe and USA there is this kind of service, but in China it is
not available.
Hope someone can help me out!

Hello Jeroen,
Depending on how the connection is set up, it is possible to hide the
number (read: don't send the CallerID).
If you're using the VoipCheap Client (downloaded from VoipCheap.com),
change the setting 'Phonenumbers' to 'No Caller ID'.
If you're using the VoipCheap service Phone2Phone, I don't know if it's
possible to hide it as I assume that in that case the CallerID of the
device setting up the call in The Netherlands will be displayed.

This will not work with the VoipCheap phone-to-phone service.
VoipCheap is transmitting the phonenumbers to both ends:
number A is transmitted to phone B,
number B is transmitted to phone A.

This will not help. Wether or not China Telecom blocks the ID for your
landline is not relevant. You are not initiating the call from your
landline, but from the VoipCheap website. VoipCheap will allways send both
ID's to both ends.
I'm surprised to hear that the internet connection is too bad there in
Shanghai.
I have used my "FritzBox" both in Shangai (Holliday Inn Vista, Cang Shou
Road) as from my Hotel room in Beijing. In both cases I was able to make
problem-free VOIP calls (and receive calls on by belgian number)
If you could manage to connect a simple ATA to your Internet line, I believe
you should be able to make VOIP calls. In case of low bandwith, just use
appropriate Codecs and/or enable "Voice Activation Detection" (this
prohibits the transmission of data during pauses in speech, hence reduces
data streaming during internet calls)
