Yes can install ubuntu (my recommendation is 9.04 as it need only 256 mb
RAM) well you can installed both OS by simply by choosing ubuntu for
window option.
For this you may only use 1 partition of you hardisk.
Thanks

You should use mint8.0 which is a ubuntu derivative and contains all
necessary applications. So you can use it seamlessly. However, you
need to know the optimized methods of installation as both OS can
reside easily. I also had a computer like your configuration and i
used both linux and xp .
