save as styled text

Is there a reason why my Save as HTML and Save as Styled Text options
are disabled in the File menu?

I'm running the latest version on Snow Leopard.

I'm running Snow Leopard version 10.6.2 and BBEdit version 9.3.1, and I don't have the problem you mentioned. From BBEdit's File menu I can:

Save as Styled Text ...

-and/or-

Save as Styled HTML ...

Both methods of saving produce the expected results on my iMac.

Restarting BBedit helped and the menu items are enabled now.
