When I choose compare front two documents, or I find differences between files, the results always show up on my secondary monitor. This started happening when I  upgraded to 10.5.4 a few days ago.

This is rough since that monitor is in portrait mode and the two side by side windows are then exceptionally narrow. Basically not usable. I've dragged all the windows back to my main monitor and then did the compare once again and it seemed to make no difference the next time I did the compare.

I also deleted all the com.barebones.bbedit preferences in the library. Nothing changed.

Anyone else notice this? Any suggestions?

I'm now going to delete the full app and reinstall it. I use the non-app store version and have been upgrading for years.

Hey Raman,

Set it up the way you want. Go to the Window menu. Set the default window for Differences Results.

See if that fixes things for you.

I have the same problem with the non-app store version, did the suggestion(?) work for you ?

I ended up using this command in the terminal:

defaults write com.barebones.bbedit DifferencesResults_WhichScreen "WZMn"

After doing that it seemed to be fine (non-app store version), so I didn't try the other method.

This behavior is due to a change we made in BBEdit 10.5.4, as follows:

* When no other settings are present (having been carried over
from old versions), Find Differences results will be presented on
the largest display by default, rather than the "main" display
(the one containing the menu bar).

To revert to the prior behavior, issue this Terminal command:

defaults write com.barebones.bbedit DifferencesResults_WhichScreen "WZMn"

Thanks Patrick. Worked great! And I'm much happier now since my second monitor is ancient and unreliable.
