Hi,

I wonder if there exists such a thing as a seminar or group of whatever dedicated to category theory and/or toposes (or species), within driving distance from Bay Area? Or is the nearest one in Chicago? That would be sad. And I wonder if there could be enough people to set up such a seminar.

I bet you could get one for free if you buy Dan Piponi dinner at a fancy restaurant :-)

Brian,

I'm pretty sure Vlad could teach me vastly more than I could teach him!

At Noisebridge, I and one other person are reading "Conceptual
Mathematics" and working problems. We'd be happy to join (or
maybe host) a more ecumenical group. We are probably not at
your level, though.

I keep coming back to "Conceptual Mathematics," but with many interruptions.

We've got a small group that meets 2pm every sunday at http://www.noisebridge.net
in the Mission in SF. The location's a bit dodgy, but just knock;
tourists are welcome.

Right now its just me and one other guy that are the regulars, with a
few other people dropping in from time to time. We're working our way
through Conceptual Mathematics, we're about 120 pages in, though we'd
be more than willing to help get serious people caught up. The meeting
time's been stable for about 2 months now, looks like its gonna stick.
After this, we'll probably take a stab at Implementing Functional
Languages by pjones, before either hitting Awody's Category Theory, or
maybe Topoi.
