This is tangential to UAVs, but I figure some of you guys may have ideas.

I am getting into R/C rocket gliders. (Eventually I want to make then
autonomous, I have a competition class in mind: farthest distance out
and return on a rocket boost)

Finding sites to launch is proving a challenge. LUNAR.org flies from
Moffett once a month, and it gets thin after that. I've had firemen
chase me away from empty parking lots and such.

If any of you have experience with rockets in the Bay Area, please share it.

Ari.

Try Friends of Amatuer Rocketry. It's out in Mojave is the only downer. I do some work out there with my company, but the site is free and open to amateurs and enthusiasts. Check out their website. www.friendsofamateurrocketry.org

Thanks! It's a bit of a drive, especially with my daughter--she's the
one I'm trying to hook on flying--but looks like a great place for
competitions!
