High temp wire

Does anybody know where I can get some high temperature wire locally for connecting up a heat resistor in a J hot end?  Hotends recommends this one from McMaster:  


Or can I get away with just using regular 18 awg wire?  I am hoping to get it quickly and not have to wait for McMaster.

I would stop by Halted in Sunnyvale and get some Teflon wire.

In terms of connecting to electronics you can get away with 20 AWG - as for the high temp part (of which you only need a few inches) I think the McMaster stuff works.

Ahhh!  If I only need a few inches, then I can use the foot I have left over from the last hot end I put together.

i've started running my hotends into 6 pin connectors. pwr,thermist, and 2 more pins for an led or fan.

I used one of these I got from Frys... They have them in the store.

It has 12 circuits, so I can put 4 stepper wires, 2 hot end, 2 thermistor, 2 fan, and a spare 2 for a z probe.

So now I can completely disconnect the hotend and extruder when needed.

I only use high temp wire from the hot end to the connector, which is only about 4 inches.

yep. just molex connectors. dont think i've seen a molex that isn't keyed. make sure that you get the proper crimps for them. makes life fantastic.

Pin pusher is probably a good idea. I put a hole in my finger trying to force a molex pin into the socket over the weekend. I think the pins were the wrong ones though.

i can usually press them in by hand.. pusher is for removing them.. wrong size pins or crimps werent tight enough..

btw taylor. got a first (messy) object brostock printed today.. just a quickly openscad'd cylinder.  the wades hobbed bolt cant hold enough pressure to feed my bowden setup, assembling an airtripper.

Awesome! I got mine moving but I need to replace all those arms with carbon rods. I finally printed all the parts for that though and made adapters tonight to fit the rods onto the rod ends (they're just 6-32 screws with the heads ground off), but I'm moving next week so I need to focus on packing instead of playing with printers.

How we do it is we wire ferrule crimp the high temp wire to the power resistor. Then those few inches of high temp wire goes to a 1x2 molex micro-fit connector  The rest is 20AWG standard stranded wire.
