Native American Indian Heritage Month
WHO:         
All county departments, community and faith based organizations, and community members interested in celebrating Native American Indian Heritage Month.
 
WHAT:        The Department of Behavioral Health Office of Cultural Competence and Ethnic Services in collaboration with the Native American subcommittee will be hosting a celebration for Native American Indian Heritage month with the theme of "Healing through Education."
 
Presentations will include topics such as Music in Native Country and its effects, Understanding the Native American World View, the 2010 United States Census and the American Indian Community, along with personal stories and performances.
 
All in attendance will have the opportunity to taste Indian Fry Bread, a traditional native food usually served at native gatherings and Pow Wows.
 
WHY:          The purpose of the celebration is to further our understanding of different cultures through education and collaboration.
 
On October 30, 2009, President Obama signed a proclamation officially declaring November 2009 as National Native American Heritage Month. President Obama called upon all Americans to commemorate this month with appropriate programs and activities.
