The Buddhist Peace Fellowship is hiring a Director of Media & Action to
start as soon as April 2nd. We seek an individual who is interested in both
bringing spiritual and transformative practice into activist communities
and bringing activism into Buddhism. Our ideal candidate is fluent in
current organizing strategies, has a well-developed anti-oppression
analysis, and is an articulate writer and thoughtful editor. The position
is located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Buddhist Peace Fellowship is a nonprofit organization and national
network of Buddhist activists with allies all over the world. Working from
the awareness of the interconnectedness of all things, we seek to cultivate
the conditions for peace, social justice, and environmental sustainability
within our selves, our communities, and the world. Our flagship
publication, *Turning Wheel Media,* seeks to bring Buddhist teachings into
conversation with situations in the world, inspiring and informing action
for peace. We are in an organizational transition and are looking for a new
team member who can be part of our East Bay team as we update the analysis,
communications, and activities of our 34-year old organization.

*About the Position*
With other co-directors, the Director of Media & Action will lead the
Buddhist Peace Fellowship in carrying out its mission. As part of shared
leadership, the Co-Director will participate within the new staff
collective model to complete strategic planning and decision making about
how best to carry out administration and program work of BPF.
In addition to shared organizational leadership, the Director of Media &
Action will coordinate our communication strategies on Buddhist political
analysis online and on the ground. This includes project management of our
award-winning online magazine, Turning Wheel Media, the historic journal of
engaged Buddhism. The coworker will also develop and lead community
mobilizations and events to engage Buddhists and social justice activists
to participate in transformative social change.
*Required skill and experience areas*:
- Commitment to personal Buddhist or related transformative
practice
- Familiarity with Buddhist teachings in intersection with social
justice political analysis and praxis
- Online writing, blogging, and social media
- Community organizing and experience in movements for change
- Experience working collectively with people from diverse
backgrounds and perspectives
- Public speaking and event planning
- Strategic planning and visioning
*Additional Preferred Skills*
- Experience with audio and video media
- Experience working in non-profit organizations, five years
preferred
- Direct experience in horizontal staff collectives and joint
decision making
- Communicating with and editing the work of other authors
- Design experience, familiarity with Photoshop and Indesign
- Experience recruiting and managing volunteers and interns
