it would be very handy to go to the Output Devices and just start and
stop with a toggle when you want to export audio data to a file on a
hard drive

this way one could start and stop it without having to launch it from
the command line with the -stdout switch on
in other words one could do this by launching it from the desktop icon
then starting and stopping the render/export in the Output Devices window
i.e. moving the -stdout switch to the Output Devices GUI

instead of clicking around in the directories and files in the top of

it would be nice to ALSO be able to type into the 'Selection' text field
at the bottom in order to navigate through a file system
similar to the 'Location' window in Gnome or KDE
