Hi gang, I need some input from my fellow job boarders. My question is

How do I value my online job board business? I have been approached by
some firms and I need to give them a price at some point. I have spoken
to a few people in the industry and the numbers I have heard mentioned
so far are 1.5 to 5 times revenue.

One has to be careful of this in the UK as the employment agencies act
prevent you from charging job seekers for finding them a job. Naturally the
law has not kept pace with the internet as many sites already do this by
using a reverse sms model.

Cost of job boards.

I'd be interested in views on the cost of using a job board compared to
what they deliver. In my opinion, a single job should be no more than
£50 not the £300-£600 that some of the bigger job boards quote. I
also think that unlimited packages of circa £2,000 per month are also
way over-priced but employers keep on paying.

Personally I think it has a big place. I only work with retailers, and
whilst they are a massive industry, there are niche's within the niche!
As Guy Kawasaki says, you've got to create something really compelling
and that of course will be the difficult bit.

I've been really intrigued with the concept of creating a job community
as opposed to a traditional job board. With the commoditization of
jobs, it seems targeting a very specific niche and building content
around the jobs instead of the other way around is a smart move.

I'm kind of on the fence for this one. I see the value of vertical
search engines but also see the value of having a niche 'community
portal' that may or may not help in attracting passive job seekers. As
I only work in the Retail sector I can see elements of both working.
I'll be including various bits into my own site so watch this space...
