It does seem like the era of the bassist walking 4 to the bar in bluegrass is mostly in the past.

Hello bassists all,

A bluegrass bass student is interested in reading bass clef.
Are there any bluegrass bass books out there with bass clef notation (not tab)?

Notes is notes. I'd get him into a standard bass book like Simindl, Rabbath, or Rufus Reid.

Yes, there is a wonderful book called the Parking Lot Picker Songbook,
by Dix Bruce. There are 5 editions of the book and one is for bass.
It comes with 2 CD's of songs, 200 total. I recommend it highly. No
tab, bass notation.
