Hi
I am trying to sell some products on Google Base and I need to include
shipping.
I have tried to search for information on where to insert it.
The only ting I found was a place that told me to write it down under
"Location and delivery".
The problem is that when i tried to buy something from myself the
shipping did not show up as an option anywhere for me to add or
anything.
How will I be able to charge for my products so that the customers
know what the full price -product + shipping- will be before they
decide to buy?
I don't know how to include shipping either. I have a really great
shipping calculator which I use on eBay. I've only seen one other
person using it. I didn't make it, obviously, but I edited it a
little. The problem is when I try to include this tool in a Google
Base listing, it shows up as javascript/HTML code. I don't know how to
make it show up like it does on eBay. I only have a basic working
knowledge of HTML. I don't have the skills to understand how to fix
what is happening. I'm going to post a link to one of my eBay
auctions so you can see what it is supposed to look like.
If you can figure out how to make it show up like it's supposed to,
not as code, you are welcome to use it. Please just explain to me how
to use it in Google Base also.
Good Luck

google-base shipping has been broken for awhile --
as far as i know the shipping attribute is still broken.
google-base is a rather simple data-base of items
so adding scripts to calculate shipping isn't viable.
the last suggested workaround was:
1. add shipping costs to your base price and publish that price.
2. explain shipping costs and details in your item's description.
Good luck adding shipping costs and details in the item description.
All our items were removed for violating the policy guidelines - for
just adding such information. At least Ebay made sense...

if you mean doing (2) without doing (1) --
simply describing the added costs in the description
without it being reflected in the final posted price --
then that probably would violate policy guidelines.
that is, if a posted price is $20
and its description is to add $5 for shipping
then that's probably a violation --
as opposed to a posted price of $25
with the description that $5 is for shipping.
or, was it shipping outside a currency's home country --
I'm not sure if the last reply was directed to me, but that most
likely can't be the case as a simple search will bring up many items
listed with shipping separate. Mind you, they don't seem to be as
blatant with the wording. But what is one to do with regards to such
issues when those items are not listed on one's own website? Google
says that items can be hosted on a separate page specifically for
Google Base. We have done that as well as host them through another
website similar to ebay, ioffer. In both cases, I see no alternative
than to post information on the listing - in Google Base because it is
in essence its own website and in the case of ioffer because the
listings were premade and only uploaded to Google Base. I don't know
how or if they could be changed at that point because there doesn't
seem to be a way to mass edit listings without resubmitting the
feed.

i agree it's a difficult dilemma; the original post was
how to add shipping and the two-step solution was
google's suggested method until the issue is fixed --
at least that's how i understand things currently.
just because a search beings up many items listed
with shipping separate -- explicitly adding shipping
to a description but not included in the posted price --
doesn't necessarily mean it's ok or not-- ever see
lots of people speeding but only one gets a ticket.
i suppose an alternative would be not to mention
shipping at all -- but that wasn't how i interpreted
the original question and i didn't notice google
suggest that alternative.
Adding to the annoyance, our contacts with the Google Team on this
matter have been less than helpful, being as they are almost always
completely automatic replies and make little to no sense. In the last
correspondence, an agent actually suggested that we make the changes
to the feed and then they would be happy to take a look at the feed.
What kind of sense does that make? If the change is made, why would
they even need to take a look at the feed? This is wearisome. Why
should we give Google money for advertising when they are consistently
pulling things like this?
