Hi everybody,

as on every 3rd Thursday of a month, there will a BarcelonaOnRails meetup.

You are all invited to come to XING's new office at 7pm - it is still at Consell de Cent 332, but we moved up to the 1st floor.

We do not have a talk proposal yet - so if you would like to present, just let us know!
We are looking for all kinds of talk around Ruby, Rails, HTML5, JS, *sql,... feel free to present your ideas and experiences!

Schedule:
  • 7pm doors open
  • beerworking
  • 7:30 1st talk
  • maybe more talks
  • more beerworking
As we have a larger office with a nice terrace now, we do not need to got to a bar later - but be warned, that our office still looks like a construction site ;-)

Looking forward to see you here,
Andreas

Hi *,

I'd be happy to present a short (~10 minutes) talk titled: How to Make Fat Models Presentable. It's not about fashion, but rather more Rails-related.

Cheers,
Wojtek

Nice :) I once gave a short talk about building Presenters/Decorators with the draper gem. So I like the topic :)

Maybe some other people can share their experiences in an open discussion following your short talk.

But please, just keep proposing more talks - we can easily endure two or three!

Hi all! Naoise here from the XING office.

In this month's meetup I will attempt to stream and record the presentations, so anyone can join live or review later. I don't promise much but it would be really cool to have more than one presentation to be able to test everything.

On the other side, we _may_ have beers sponsored by Moritz, also as a test case.

See you on Thursday.

Sorry to say I take back the thing I said about Moritz sponsoring beers, it seems they "don't accept requests" anymore, whatever that means. No panic, beers are still sponsored by XING.

Good talk man. Very interesting.
Any other resources on presenters/decorators and structuring your Rails apps? :D

There's a very good chapter on the Rails Antipatterns book by Tammer Saleh that exemplifies the use case of the presenter pattern(not decorator) and how sometimes it is useful to migrate from the callback-based approach to using a presenter when you're updating more than one model on the same request.

Overall I think the book is a good read to identify some messes that you've made in the past in your rails apps. And maybe find out another approach that leads you to a more mantainable way to solve the same problems. It certainly rang some bells for me

Thanks!

If the idea of „proper” structure is interesting for you, it might be worth looking into those far-going and radical ideas like hexagonal architecture ( http://alistair.cockburn.us/Hexagonal+architecture ) and Data Context Interaction ( http://dci-in-ruby.info/ ).

Hey everyone! The last Barcelona on Rails we tested streaming it through Ustream. It was a fiasco because the bandwith wasn't enough and it kept loosing the connection. Also the quality wasn't great.

Fortunately we also recorded it, here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0kqKFziH9Q

From now on we will try to recordem to have talks available online, any help/suggestions are welcome!
