Hi,

On another thread we discussed the possibility of hosting another tech
event in Phnom Penh. Although a lot of people expressed interest in
another event it didn't seem to progress forward.

So I would like to propose a meeting of people interested in
organising BarCampPP 2009. I also think we should keep the agenda
quite light, and then go into more details at future meetings.

To be discussed on this thread:

- Names of people interested in attending such a meeting
- Meeting time
- Meeting location
- Meeting agenda

Let me get the ball rolling by making a tentative proposal which
hopefully others can expand, modify and comment on:

Meeting time: Sunday 8th March, 3pm
Meeting time: T&C World, Street 51

Meeting Agenda:

- Possible venues
- Possible theme(s)
- Possible date(s)

I hope there will be lots of people willing to lend a hand.

Regards,

Chris

Dear Chris,

I'll be seeing you at the meeting as your proposed schedule. I'm very excited that you're taking the lead.
I'm thinking of this BarCamp Phnom Penh II as a more matured product by looking at the second generation of iPhone, Google's Adroid G2, and Amazon Kindle 2. The first one was somewhat exciting while remained very basic. And as we learned more from users (well, BarCampers), we start to develop or enhance it.

Let's call it: BarCamp Phnom Penh 2 (#barcamppp2 for our unversal tag).

Again, thanks for doing this. I'm more than happy to take part as much as I can. ;) I want to echoe Chris's message that if you're interested in making this event, please attend this initial meeting. As always, it's open to you all.

Greetings,
Tharum Bun

Hey All, great to see this going on. Daveclic (@daveclic) wont be able
to come as he is coming to the US for a week, but let us know how you
think we can help.
It would be good to share the final budget from last time and maybe a
little analysis of what to 'do more of/ less of' for v2.0.

IMO The venue last time worked OK, maybe this time a place with more
rooms for concurrent presentations would be good. RUPP maybe? (They
have been quite communicative with us and expressed openness to doing
'events', Dave has the actual contact). I think one of the lessons
Thomas shared was 'venue first, date later' so starting with a
tentative calendar range for the event but keeping flexible sounds
like a good idea.

Yea, more possible at the university but some are really hard to work with.
It's good if we can find another one rather than previous one.

Hi All - Sorry to miss this meeting, but very excited to see plans are
underway. As edjez mentioned, I'm traveling on business for a few

Hi guys,

So far attendees for the meeting are:

Tharum
Virak
Chris

And also Dave is interested in getting involved when he gets back. It
would be nice to get even more people involved so we can spread the
workload, any time however small would be welcome!

See you on Saturday.

Hi guys,

We seem to have now split across two separate email threads one on
this list, one via private emails, I think we should try and keep it
on here to avoid confusion.

*Update from the other email thread*

On the other email Tharum said he can't make it this weekend. So I
suggested that maybe we move it forward so we can get a date with
higher attendance.

Lonh said he was interested in getting involved.

Eduardo informed me Dave from Instedd will be back in town in two
weeks.

*Update from the other email thread ends*

Ok so have five attendees:

Virak
Lonh
Paul
Darren (Yoolk)
Chris

That sounds like enough to me for an initial meeting. Then I suggest
at the meeting we will discuss a date for the next meeting and
hopefully then Tharum and Dave will also be able to attend.

So see you all on tomorrow 3pm at T&C World, Street 51!

Chris

Chris, thank for update!
Few other barcampers will come with me too.

So, once again, to clarify the location, as you said:
Tomorrow 3pm at T&C World, Street 51!
So, it is T&C World Paster (next to Sokimex station), Not the one on Monivong!

See you tomorrow!

Sorry I haven't had time to post the results of our first meeting,
it's been a crazy couple of weeks at work. Basically the first me
outlined the main things we need to do and the order in which we need
to do them. At the top of the list were:

- Get wiki setup so everyone can collaborate on the requirements
- Find a venue

It was a very broad brainstorming session with many topics discussed.
Hopefully tomorrow we will refine those ideas and start making
progress on some of them. Everyone is welcome to join and we will
accept any input in terms of time however small.

See you all tomorrow: Tea and Coffee World St. 51 (behind Sokimex) @
3pm

Be there or be square!

By the sound of things there was no BarCamp meeting on Saturday.
Unfortunately I couldn't make it as my wife gave birth in the morning
to a healthy baby girl (poor excuse I know). I've since spoken with
John who informed my that PUC (Pannasastra) have suggested they would
be interested in allowing us to host the event there. I would like to
propose that we meet on Saturday and go to check out the facilities at
PUC. What does everyone think?

Hi all,

I am Violeng Yejj's representative for the BarCamp PP planning team. I
would like to ask you, do we have barcamp meeting tomorrow or not?
If we have, I would like to join the meeting and to see how Yejj can
contribute for the barcamp.

Thanks,
Violeng

Hello All,

Ray Leos is game to meet us at Pannasastra University's Auditorium (Norodom Boulvard) @ 2pm.
This is the same place where they had BarCamp 2007.
They are setting up their Cuban Film Festival for 3pm, so we will have a chance to see their Audiovisual equipment getting set up.

So: Meeting at 2pm, Pannasastra Auditorium?
I will be away for Khmer New Year next week, for about 2 weeks.

Sorry for my absence for the last week. I have been a bit crook.

I have some time this weekend to have a good look at the google doc.
It is already very well written and in my opinion does not need much
change.

Hello All,

At 2pm yesterday (Saturday April 4th), our ad-hoc BarCamp Planning Team
took a look at Pannasastra's Meeting Hall.
Ray Leos of Pannastastra was quite enthusiastic and also offered us the
use of classrooms for secondary sessions.
Given the large capacity and audiovisual capabilities, it's the best
(and only) venue we've seen yet. However, we would need to pay for the
use of the hall.
We expect a price comparable to the cost charged for the Clogger Summit.

The time for BarCamp is tentatively suggested for August.

Chris, Violeng, Darren, any comments to add?
regards
- J

Hi, sorry i havent been in the meeting last weekend. Me and Chantra has been down to KL for #barcampKL.
So, sounds like we had a green light from PUC? I also wait to checkout another university behind CCF, that might be also a great possible venue!

Thank all.

There were my initial thoughts on PUC having visited:

Positives:
- Lot's of space
- Central location
- Contact (Ray) who values what we are doing
- On site food hall
- Apart from projectors and internet, everything is ready to go
- Lots of break out rooms close by
- Enough parking

Negatives:
- Although the hall is in good condition, other parts of the building
are run down
- The main hall is on the third or forth floor (no elevator)
- Not much in the way of outside space

Just for comparison here are my thoughts on the Japanese Cooperation
centre:

Positives:
- Very nice hall
- Building in good condition
- Good outside space
- Proven venue

Negatives:
- Too far from central Phnom Penh
- No on site food hall
- Not close to hotels or entertainment venues

Chris

Hi Crise PUC is expensive 1000$ per day for conference hall (I used to
rent this place for Cloggersummit 2007).
If Ray can ask for free it would be great. But I think this building
is for commercial purpose.

I found a building in NIE (national institute of education, near
Independent Monument), it a big hall, can contain 1000 people with
good stage, exiting chairs, microphone system. It's cheap 250$ plus
cleaning 60$ per day. And I may negotiate for free of charge through
Jiver.

Another place is Puthsastra University, near BigA supper market, I
used to do the Blog workshop there, the conference room can contain
150 people and along the conference room their several rooms for any
sessions. I'll date to talk with school manager.

Any meeting this weekend?

Chantra
