Subject: Which operating system is the best?
Hi all,
It's been long that we have discussed about which operating system is
the best... but we seem can't find the best explanations yet. For
example like those who are using Mac OS say Mac OS is the best
operation system of all because it is elegant, expansive and  fast.
However, ppl who use M$ Windows say Windows is not just a perfect
operating system for them but a god-like operating system in the
world. It is mostly pre-installed, plenty of software are available,
and advanced on computer game. And how about those who are using Linux/
Gnu operating system? They say they use it because it is free and Open
Source. They have the freedom to "Share", "Modify" and "Use". They
don't care about being infected, data lost and privacy interfered.

But these reasons can't help ppl to think of which is the best
operating system because mostly ppl find the operating system that
meets their need is the best one like for those who has lot of money
will find Mac OS is the best and for those who are poor will see Linux/
GNU is appropriate for them and for ppl who like to have their data
lost, their pc infected, and their privacy violated they may see M$
Windows is better.

Well, the best operating system is up to ur own. no one beside you can
proof that it is best right?

I think you are trying to set people up on this one...

well  let me see...

I love them all...  viruses, malware, infections of all types, command
lines, quirky programs and immense time wasted....    hard to choose... they
are all about communication to me....

this argument reminds me of a religious zealots....   you are with us or
against us, god damnit...   you damned heathens you...     sort of George
Bush like I think....

In my line of work I seek solutions to help people communicate...  all OSes
have pluses and minuses depending on the hardware chosen...   it is really
tough...  I have used so many OSes from locally installed to server based,
from free to commercial to hacked...   you name it...  from 8 bit to 64bit
risc based and cisc based....

I love them all...

Cheers

Hello,
People have different opinions, so everything is different and changing. I
have been using a PC for 7 years, but I can't decide what the best OS is.
Just a try is not enough. Let install and use it for months to make sure you
are familiar with to find out any inconveniences.

HI all,

I have some idea related to OS, I think Microsoft is the best operating
system, because there is a lot of application support it, some many people
are try to develope software that support Microsoft, and it will make you
more easy.

But Linux is very good for Server Operating System, because it is more
reliable, security, and free to update, and you can customize source code.

So no OS is the best, it is good depend on circumstance.

Hi,
I think OS using accordingly to what you need exactly in your daily life.
You have to know what application will you use?
As today even Microsoft is not free for the world but we still can use with
crack so you can just use it but better to prepare yourself for when it's
not. Go to try with Ubuntus (with VMware), I also try it with VMware, just
some parts, I'm not yet ready for it yet as used to with Windows for long...

Enjoy yours,

:D

As you more seriously said earlier in your post, it really depends on people. But it should depend
on informed, educated choice, rather than just mainstream poor usage and/or hype/advertisement.

Our task as promoters of OpenSOurce is a cool one: We have the opportunity to remind people that
they have a choice, a choice of tens if not hundreds operating systems to have fun with, all free
in the best community spirit.

That is, rather than just being a virus-infected victim of poor habits.

Or be a fashion victim buying standard Intel hardware for three times the price so everybody can see
an apple on the cover.

Now, please, answer these questions in all fairness:

-Would you like to work in YOUR language?

-Would you like your computer to be free of VIRUS?
-Would you like your computer to be free of expensive LICENSES?
-Would you like your computer to be free of PIRATED SOFTWARE?

-Would you like it to run Software that cost ZERO $$$?
-Would you like to be allowed to make copies for your fiends?

-Would you rather be a member of an open community, or a consumer with handcuffs?

Cheers

Hi Evvanak ,

Really had a good laugh at the end of your post - thanks ;o)

I am no expert, that is for sure, but I would like to raise the
following consideration - control. Yes I understand and believe it is
important that people buy what they feel is best for themselves - I
think most people would agree here. A point of contention that I believe
is worth discussing is  "What is best for others". That is, which
platform would be best - not just for you but for your family, your
company, your friends' company, companies & organizations in Cambodia in
general, and companies & organizations around the world?

At the risk of causing a big "kafuffle" I would suggest that the
open-source is better because the idea is that the control of the
platform is with "the people" and I believe this is of paramount
importance. We know how centrally important computers are becoming in
our lives and the lives of family and friends - and this will be even
more so in the future. Who should have control of this? I firmly believe
that private enterprise systems are a lot more successful and
sustainable than socially-organized, donor-funded systems. Will
open-source be sustainable? Will open-source end up becoming a Microsoft
or Macintosh over time?  Does anyone know what is the official platform
for the Royal Government of Cambodia? Should governments work to usurp
the monopoly that Microsoft seems to have gained thus allowing a greater
variety of privately funded systems with government driven standard
protocols? Or should we all embrace open-source? What do you think?

Thanks

Ken

It’s for Windows Vista. The one for Windows 7 is in process.

This Khmer Language Pack is free of charge. As well, other
updates and service pack are also free.

Subject: Re: Which operating system is the best?
This thread is a perfect example of the benefits of open source
software. Someone started the thread asking what is the best operating
system yet half the posts on this thread have not been about what is
the best operating system, but instead have been about when people
will receive their product key from Microsoft or when Windows will be
available in Khmer. Personally I choose to use Linux because it gives
me freedom and control, and in this case license keys and translations
are a perfect example of the freedoms and control which is taken away
when using Microsoft products.

Open source is especially important for countries like Cambodia. When
Microsoft are building their product do you think they care or even
think for one second about the needs of computer users in Cambodia? No
of course they don't, they think about what will generate for them the
greatest revenue with the highest profit margin. As Cambodia is such a
small market our needs will never be catered for by Microsoft, they
will only give features that are specific to our needs *IF* it can be
done so a very low cost *AND* it in absolutely no way inconveniences
the users in their primary markets of Europe and North America. When
Microsoft look at a map of the world, this is what they see -
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/world_maps/world_mktsize96.jpg

Now lets compare this to Linux which is driven by human needs rather
than corporate needs. Cambodia already has a full Khmer language
operating system based on OpenSUSE, this OS is free and mature and
this has now been joined by the new and improving MoonOS.

And don't even get me started on Apple, it will snow in Phnom Penh
before Apple release a Khmer language OS.

Remember if you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the
problem!

We must wait 7 weeks 7 days and 7 hours to get Windows 7 activation key.
We all probably spend money as 7 times as windows xp.
