calling all NYC barcampers! your getting a first wack at this wacky
idea. why? because it's a sibling project of barcamp.

welcome to co-working nyc!

what is co-working - it's a cafe-like community/collaboration space
for developers, writer and independents.

in manhattan, our good buddy amit has been hosting jelly and the
billypointeastwick hipsters are jealous! how dare such an idea exist
in manhattan and not have a similar operation in brooklyn!?!? but
before you go off pouting into your pbr or settle into another bad
cup of coffee, let me tell you there is an alternative to the
rockish, horible coffee, have wifi today but not tomorrow
establishments that attempt to cater to the united workers of
billypointeastwick.

currently, my options have been...

working out of my my apartment. the one/two room flotation works but
it is too draining.
soundfix cafe and record store - not cool enough or too cool; btw,
i'm not talking about temperature. ether way the wifi is flaky.
atlas cafe - your insane! honestly, i'd NEVER go to a place that
serves brown water and calls it coffee.
roebling tea room - great wifi pipe, food good, but music WAY too loud.
the places i do want to work from have shuttered their electrical
plugs. i'll miss you oslo coffee shop!

sunday, i was walking by my friend's art collective, notanalternative
and out pops beka economopoulos, greenpeace's internet organizer. she
has just finished remodeling the storefront of the art collective. we
got to talking and thanks to andrew hoppin, beka was quite excited to
hear open to the idea of co-working.

now we need you to find a few like minded individuals and bring them
out for a happy hour at Spuyten Duyvil for a bit of fun and q/a.

the members of the collective are WICKED cool and love using social
legos to create a better and just future. nothing is final and we are
just kicking the ball off the ground. so far the ideal set up would
feature two rooms - "the library" and "the telcocloset"... the
library will house a large conference desk for people to pool their
energy, and feature two couches surrounded by a bookshelf wall and
plants. (sound dreamy eh?) the telcocloset will feature a desk or
two, printers, some sound proofing for conference calls and a couch
or hammock for power naps. in the evenings, the larger room will be
used as a dining room for the tenants of the collective.

the space will be located at the intersection of roebling and
metropolitan.
right now the consideration is for $150 - 200/month for regulars and
something a bit less for half'rs

if your interested, you have three actions to take...

1. join the co-working google group - http://groups.google.com/group/
coworking
2. RVSP by adding your name to the nyc co-working wiki - http://
coworking.pbwiki.com/CoworkingNewYorkCity
We be meeting at 5.30 or 6 and socialize until 8 or 9. we have yet to
select a date, so please add one of the following to your information
- Aug 16, 18, or 25.
3. BLOG IT and tag it with coworking.
