I would like to talk about the next event about Web Applications in Thailand called 'Thailand Next Web Apps 2008,' which will be held on August 16. Current information of the event is at http://sikachu.com/thailand-next-web-apps/
I have heard that somebody suggest about merging the event to Barcamp 2. I thought about it, and I think that I won't merge the event. The thing is: I don't think my event would stick into barcamp rule, like 100% participations. Also, I want this event to be the opportunity for the new startups, which might not be able to say anything on the barcamp date. If you look at the last barcamp bangkok, then you would know that lots of sessions got dropped because of little vote, which I would give them a chance to speak since this event will be smaller.
However, even I said that I don't want to merge it, I'm still under consideration though. I still got little progress here about my event, doesn't know where to place it yet, doesn't know who's going to talk in my event yet, and also I don't know who would help me as the organizer though .. yes John, i'm looking at your :)
I would like to ask you guys to help me as organizer. I would need lots of help since this event is not well-known as Barcamp so I think it would be hard to fill people in. Also there're lots of things that need to be done. So, if you can give me a hand, I would happy to hear about. :)
I'm working on create the website about this event, which will post the update about this event later. It will be on http:// nextwebapps.com some day.
I can't wait to see how this event turns out, will it be a hit or a miss. So, if you can, then please give me a hand :)

I think you have a really good idea, I would like to join in such an
event.
Are you sure August 16th is enough time to prepare for the event?
thats just a little more than a month and a half. While it can be
done, I know from experience its much better to have the time to plan
and execute something like this properly. Events take huge amounts of
work and unless you can find dedicated people to help then your going
to have a hard time pulling it off.
My Suggestion is,
Don't name a date.
Find other organizers who are fired up to help.
Meet and plan the event giving each person or groups of people roles.
Determine location, presenters, and other details such as food, or
have an idea on where to get it.
Once that is all prepared announce a launch date and spread the word
the best you can.
Good luck!

Since you need to know all sessions before the event, it might take longer time to have enough sessions filled all slots. Anyway, I still think Aug 16 is possible. Do you have venue yet?

Looks very interesting. I'm curious what exactly do you see as differentiating this from Barcamp? I expect my company, Proteus Technologies, would be interested in participating but need to understand more about what the goals/expectations are of the event. Regardless as to whether this Barcamp related or not, I'm happy to see such things going on in Thailand! :)

I think you must describe the detail of the event much more than you
did. I don't know how the event will be, what each participants has to
do, what kind of place that you want, and how can I help you. But I
guess it'll be a BarCamp that participants don't have to prepare the
topics, it's you who have to organize the topic and the instructors.
Am I wrong?
In the email of nextwebapps I have told you what I can help. Call me
if I can do anything for you.

It's now 5 weeks until the event date. I still couldn't find the venue yet. I'm currently thinking about INET, but I don't know how much does it cost and also will it be available on that date. Can somebody help me regarding contact them and finding out how much it cost?
For the tag, let's use #tnwa :) I think it's short and easy to remember.
I think this event is normally just like the barcamp, I do like to push people to speak up. However, the major difference is it doesn't have the 'camp' in its name :) .. no no .. I mean there would be a session that let people show off their stuff, also the time arrangement would be somewhat flexible than the 'slot' thingie. I won't do anything much fancy though ..
Each participant will allows to talk on the stage, have an open discussion. I think the time slot for this event will be both pre- assigned and on-site assign, or I would stick with pre-assign. It depends though ..
See, the point of this event is - I want new startups to be born. - I want to see new ideas, even it's a semi-clone. - I want all web developers to get together to share stuff (well .. I know that TWA also done that .. but I want it in more 'informal' way.) - I want to spread the word out to the world that Thailand has a good resource on creating great web applications, i.e. 'we can do this!'
For sponsorship, I currently have only 1 sponsor, which I don't know how much he would give me (lol ..) I would like to ask for sponsorship though, mainly for the venue cost actually.
So, I can sum up that I need your help on:
- Helping me contact the venue, or finding me a venue. - Finding sponsorship or being a sponsor :) - Spread the word, please ..
I'll try to put up the site this week, with lots of information about this event on it.
If anybody wants to chat with me about this event, just GTalk me: sikandsak :)

INET is free for community/non-commercial purpose. Anyway, you need to pay around B500 for maid on sunday to take care of place. Also the meal cost if you want to provide.

I think this event is not really Barcamp style. It's not that everyone coming and present their project. I suggest you need to individually contact someone you know he is working on a webapp and want him to talk. Broadcasting an invitation and expect cool guys you don't know to show up on the day should not work for this case.
You can also allocate the free talk slot for Barcamp style as well, but not pure free talk.

This is cool :) // How can I make a rsvp then if I want to use this venue?

I'm thinking about invitation, yes. I want to have some main speaker for this event, i.e. ones that making cool web apps, and I also wants new cool guy to show up and speak too. So, there would be both fixed slot and free slot. Thanks for your idea :)
I also would like to hear some suggestion also about how should I arrange this event. I mean, I want it to be somewhat like FOWA but we don't have that many web developers here.
New task: - Writing invitation letter :) - Writing PR
> New task: > - Writing invitation letter :) > - Writing PR
Too formal invitation letter is not ideal method as well. For geeks who working on web 2.0, just personal IM or tweet is enough.
Why don't you list up 'people I want to hear' in this message and I can help you on contacting (some of) them?
For me, Thai web apps I know and want to know more are: - Covershare - Birdnest - Zickr - Exteen (they are not niche anymore but always worth listening) - MyFri3nd (I don't know the correct spelling, sorry)

Just for the follow up on who should I contact for the venue at INET? I just want to make sure that they're available at that date. Also, how many rooms or facilities do they have? Can anybody who attended Drupalcamp explains me for a bit?
Thanks

Let's wait sugree for this question.
I want to add - rssthai - numerous Blog hosting services (storythai, diaryis, exteen, gotoknow, nation?) - numerous Digg-like services (zickr, kudd, seedang, siamcollective, ...) - numerous Internet TV (fukduk, iamthai, ...) note: ask Kla Duocore for this info - How about (traditional) TV on web? e.g. Maxxnettv.tv? I think there are many - GIS service (PointAsia) and any other Google Maps mashup? - Kapook also provides Facebook and Twitter-like services. Should we include them?
P.S. imo, Blognone is just web 1.0 news web site. I don't know any 2.0-app features

Just for the follow up, thanks Sugree for the venue. I think using INET as a venue would be cool.
Next thing I would ask is about the speaker. I think we already have a list of people who we wants to hear. Can you guys help me to contact them accordingly asking for them to come to the event? I contacted FukDuk and Zickr, one said ok and one was not. So, I think it might be tough for finding a speaker .. i.e. finding the pre-assigned speaker.
I will put the site up asap, too busy now .. hopefully in next 1-2 days.
Next thing would be about the sponsor. I could find only one sponsor .. can somebody help me to find some sponsor? I would need a sponsorship on food and t-shirt, and for some preparation stuff. Since this event is web-related, could I ask Google for the sponsor? Can somebody tell me how to contact them? P'Keng, can u help me? T____T (Also, btw, can Opendream become a sponsor ><?)
I think that's all update I got. I would like to say thank you for you guys in the first place to help figures most of the things out.

Anyway, i think i should set it up on the domain nextwebapps.com. Unfortunately, I'm currently point the domain to my friend's server, which I don't have control over subdomain and stuff.
So, I think the best way is find a new server for my web, which I think sugree's host would be suitable for this job. So, I would like to ask how much would it be for the smallest hosting at OFH, or can I tie nextwebapps.com to my account first? (Since I don't need so much space for it anyway ..) After I move my host, so I can do something like http://thailand.nextwebapps.com :) -- Bee http://nextwebapps.com

we might put them to three tracks, providing there are enough sessions (if not, merged down. for example, merge coding and design to only one). see below listing for a proposal.
question: as Prem, the initiator, declared before, this nextwebapps event gonna be more 'designed' than BarCamp. a question is, does the organizer like to balance the topics, or just let everything goes ? say, extreme case, does it's ok to have 10 Joomla sessions out of 12 ?
----
Three proposed tracks (based on topics on http://sikachu.com/thailand-next-web-apps/ ) * Business Track (+ Service Introduction) * Coding Track * Interface Design / User Experience Track
Business Track + Service Introduction * Web Application ใหม่ๆ ในประเทศไทย (new webapps in Thailand) * ธุรกิจการโฆษณาทางเว็บไซต์ในประเทศไทย / SEO (online ads) * เว็บไซต์ที่มีแนวคิดเดียวกับที่มีในต่างประเทศ (localized-"clones") * การป้องกันเว็บไซต์จากการโจมตี (website defense measure) * ความปลอดภัยของข้อมูล (security) * Hosting ในประเทศไทย (hosting in Thailand)
Oh, bros. Don't hesitate to ask me. You got it the right stuff. This is what my host expected to be. Just login to your account to start working on it right now.

First of all, thanks Sugree for the hosting! Gosh .. I was เกรงใจ you so much that I couldn't say a word to ask. I'll set the thing up ASAP then :)
For the question that @bact asked, I think the event will be more organized than barcamp, but not so strict. I want to let everything goes, but I might balance the topic only for some extreme case :) (i.e. 10 Drupal session might be merged to use only 3 hrs ..) So that ppl have a chance to talk on more of the stuff. However, they would know beforehand that their topic will be merged since the schedule will be posted on the web before the event date.
I do prefer the application talk, but I also want this event as opportunity for people to share their knowledge at the edge of web applications, i.e. I want web developer & designer geeks to share stuff :)
I like the way that @bact split things up. I'll use that as a guide to spread the sessions out. :)
Also, I can't remember that I have mention it or not, but sessions will be both fixed and open, i.e. some of them will be filled in a calendar, and some will be assigned on the event date (just like barcamp ^^) -- but this can be changed if all session slots are filled :) (which I hope it will be filled, yay !!)
The event day will be running through as:
- Opening sessions - Sessions that are about Company (so ppl will get to know other company) - Session about coding, design, and open session (runs parallels)
I still try to figure out how many rooms should I use. All four? Just only 3? I think at least 3 rooms. Can @sugree help me confirm the room size? (How large is the large, medium, and small one?) :)

fyi, INET has 4 rooms:
* two small meeting rooms of the same size, with fixed table (10-15 ppl ?) * one lage meeting room, with fixed table (30-40 ppl ?) * one large function room (50-70 ppl ?) (somebody pls confirm the capacity)
the reservation area at front also has some space for registration/organization things.
