good morning, guys

I'm just chatting with a barcamper from KL and he's asking me where to stay on Friday and Sunday night.

there are so many cheap guesthouses/hotels in Bangkok, but I thought we can also offer spare bed, sofa or room for barcampers who's coming from outside of bangkok.

We can make lists of hotels/guesthouses, and spare beds/sofas/rooms for them.

For myself, i have to ask my flatmates if i can bring bunch of people to stay my  place, but in my bedroom is extraterritoriality, so anybody can stay if they don't mind staying on floor with thin bed pad or sleeping bag, or sharing the bed, then I'll stay my flat mate's bedroom.

anyway.... gotta go to work now.

This will be especially useful plus added advantage for cost-cutting. I created a simple Form & Result Spreadsheet in Google Docs that we can barcampers in Bangkok can use to inform others about the available spots.

Thanks a million guys.

I have already broadcasted to Malaysia's FOSS community mailing list and will post on Barcamp Malaysia's FB Group as well. As for Mailing list, I'll let @cerventus broadcast to mailing list.

There are some good, big, cheap hotel-style rooms at Don Muang where I am staying, which is about 10-15 mins and I guess around 70-80 baht by taxi from the venue. I'll be going and coming back so I can share a taxi with people and show them around.

I know the 65 sq m room under me has 3 comfortable, hotel style beds, hot bath/shower, fridge, balcony etc. for 900 baht a night.

I am pretty sure they have a lot of other rooms available since the airport at Don Muang closed. The restaurant has some excellent food and a nice atmosphere, otherwise there quite a few good options nearby, also a 7-11 (of course), there is room service, and the area is fairly quiet.

Maybe not the best if someone wants to go all the way into town partying, but taxis back from downtown cost about 200 baht, and the location at Don Muang is easier for getting to and from the venue. I'm not sure about how it might compare to places around Sripatum Uni.

Also there is free WIFI (which works well in the restaurant too) and an internet point.

Contact Erawan Place: 02 9811 333 or email me.

I've never had a real problem getting a taxi around here. I imagine it's even easier on Phaholyothin as it is a major road.
Bangkok is always good for taxis unless you are really far out in the middle of nowhere.

It is about 6 miles from the venue in a taxi.

Sorry, forgot to make it clear that we live here already, I can ask but I don't think my girlfriend will be too happy to share a room. I'd wait and see who else is coming over and wants to stay. The rooms are very unlikely to fill up soon, I'm sure you could just rock up in the middle of the night. The place is an airport hotel which has had to partly convert to serviced apartments cos they don't have the custom any more.

Also, you do know that you can sleep at the Barcamp venue? Personally I think I'll stay around there in the evening, but I'd prefer a good night's sleep at home.

I think C/C must be OK cos they accept cards in the restaurant. I'll ask.

How hard is it to get taxis in the evenings/night to and from the Location to the hotel. If its close enough, I don't mind sharing the room cost w/ u guys. Also, I assume CCard should be no problem as well for the hotels or is it cash only ?

There's no SLEEPING at Barcamp!!! You're supposed to participate in all the cool activities we'll have going on and crash right before sunup. :-)

So actually - my thinking is that travelers should have a place in the wiki to post their arrival & departure times and then list a preference for what kind of accommodations they are looking for whether it be hotel (post budget), hostel, or crash with barcamper. I'm sure there are several of us who are willing to make a room available for free for traveling attendees. I see Satoko has offered and we've got at least one spare room at my condo + my office has a nice bed & bath arrangement as well.

I know a little effort on the part of us locals will make the experience far easier and pleasant for travelers so if travelers post their preferences we can just individually choose to "sponsor" one or more and help them make their arrangements. Be sure and mark on the wiki if you've taken care of someone asking for help so we know who's left.

Sound ok?

I'm offering my sofa bed for a barcamper.
My place is at Phaholyothin 21, not so far from the venue.

I was about to propose this sort of idea to the group.
Maybe we should make an opt-in list for this.

I put up a page with low airfares and some cheap hotels at:
http://www.barcampbangkok.org/super-low-airfares-for-barcamp-bangkok-3
but a lot of them expire on Monday April 26th--but Air Asia usually
just posts a new round of cheap fares the next day.

Jan - when we update the website, let's make a sofa-sharing page or a
forum where people can post a free room or sofa to sleep and or
request one...

At the start of my Soi, Phaholyothin 30 there is a recently built
condo/hotel place which has nice clean AC rooms for about 700 baht a
night. We use it when people visit us and need a place to stay and
have never had any complaints from people. It's 2 mins from major
avenue which has cinema, lots of restaurants, and villa supermarket. I
guess it takes ~ 10 minutes by Taxi from my Soi to the venue. Happy to
show people around, give directions etc.

2 miles from venue, so I guess it only 5 mins in Taxi.
