I just was told that we're having BarcampBKK4 on a long weekend for Thailand which means a lot of people will be going out of town and our numbers will not be as high as expected. Can someone confirm this? Anyone one know what the holiday is for? Should we reconsider the date and push it back one more week?

Well, then that's good since there won't be lots of people. The event wouldn't be so crowded, and you'll have a chance yourself to meet and talk to new people. Why not? Are we trying to break 5000 people attending event this time?

up to everyones own decision to come to barcamp or not. as mentioned
for participants from outside bangkok it might be an additional
motivation to take the trip.

It does not sounds like there is a call for moving the dates--but
should we ask the community what they think about having it on a long
weekend?

Remember, we do not only lose participants, we can be losing some
really good speakers!

Or should we have a three day Barcamp!

Exactly 3 days sounds good. This would make it worth to spend time and money in Bangkok.
And speakers come and go. Well there might be also coming more new faces from outside and new speakers!
A 3 day event would perhaps even pull people from outside Thailand to Bangkok.

Instead on high numbers of participants you should better concentrate on high quality of discussions and talks. And with less, but more dedicated people and longer time for the camp this Camp could be much more successful than all others.

Three days might also be more interesting for sponsors ;-), Combine it with 2 Socializing events in the evenings and have Parties - ask one or more of the bigger beer companies to sponsor

A 3 day barcamp would likely be a new record. :-) haha insane. Maybe have a day dedicated to longer (3 hrs - half day) tutorials? Its an interesting concept.

I think since we have a great space (which we are already showing off
with nice videos) and we are kind of 'making up' for the cancelled
event then a 3-day event seems like a good idea.

I would definitely be willing and able to attend a 3-day event on this
weekend due to the holiday.

Voting for 2 days myself.

3 days is too much.

It's better to finish strong, rather than fizzle out.

hi

The idea of a 3 day event is interesting - perhaps a late start on day one and an early finish on day three would encourage out of towners and provide them with more travel time.  Or those in Bangkok fighting the traffic :)

Cheers

I think I mentioned before that the 3 day Barcamp was just in jest.

However, if somebody wants to raise an additional 150,000 Baht in
sponsorships and find a team of organizers and volunteers to fund the
third day... have at it.

If not, then any conversation on the topic is a moot point.
