Dear all Saigon Barcampers,

I'm An Nguyen from the Saigon Linux User Group (aka SaigonLUG). Here is my Facebook and Twitter account. About SaigonLUG, it's a community dedicated to the advocacy of Free/Open-Source Software (FOSS) and Linux, UNIX operating systems especially for SMEs and schools in HCMC.

Every year, FOSS enthusiasts around the world celebrate a worldwide event called Software Freedom Day in the third Saturday of September to educate the worldwide public about of the benefits of using high quality FOSS in education, in government, at home, and in business. Software Freedom Day 2010 is on Saturday, September 18. In short, SFD is the most important traditional event of FOSS community around the world. The event will be very familiar to the Barcampers like us since it's an open event for everyone to join and talk about any topic we're interested in (FOSS and Linux related topics only, for sure! :D). All the SFD participants are encouraged to discuss freely about their knowledges and experiences of using FOSS, Linux and UNIX at home, at work,...

In HCMC, Saigon Software Freedom Day is celebrated by an open team made of local FOSS enthusiasts, mostly from the local Open Source communities such as SaigonLUG, Ubuntu Vietnam. Last year we organized Saigon SFD 2009 in the University of Pedagogy with about 300 participants. Below are some articles about the event:

Beside, Kevin, our friend, also posted an entry on his blog saigonnezumi:

To prepare for Saigon SFD 2010, we are now looking for a venue with better facilities in oder to celebrate a much more successful event this year. Since Barcamp Saigon was organized successfully in RMIT Vietnam University, we think that it'll be great if Saigon SFD 2010 can be celebrated there. So would you kind give me some contacts of RMIT Vietnam?

Thank you very much!
Cheers!
An.

PS: For more information about SFD itself and Saigon SFD 2010, please don't be hesitate to drop me an email or give me a call. I will set up a mailing list for the organizers of Saigon SFD 2010 and will invite you all soon.

Ask Kevin Kuruvilla" <kevin.k...@rmit.edu.vn>, he was my contact at RMIT. But I would recommend a local school or university, that reflects more the spirit of Open Source.

Best
Thomas
