Asking for identification is fine. Nothing wrong in that. After all someone should not impersonate. 

But Indian Bank format for LC contains Spouse Name, Spouse Date and Mobile Number. I wonder why Life Certificate should have all these declarations.

Sir.Whether the Branch in which you went for giving Life certificate is your Pension Paying Branch or other than the Pension Paying Branch.If you have gone to the branch other than Pension Paying Branch,you have to show some ID Proof of retiree,PPO etc.

Dear Sarma,

Did the person at the branch who provided the Life Certificate pertaining to the retired bank staff or was that meant for the government pensioners? The latter requires the Aadhaar Number and a copy of it. Staff proforma does not require any attachment. The form needs your HRMS Number, Account Number, Address and Phone number. That's all. If you had carried your ID card, it would have been better. Let it be. Did you obtain an acknowledgement and have received a confirmation mail from the Mumbai Office?

Sir,I went to a branch other than pension paying branch.None of the staff knows me.I filled up the form and handed it to one of the staff.He verified my particulars and made necessary

 entries in the system.He went to the branch manager for confirmation of entries.In all,it took 7 minutes for me to get acknowledgement.There was no need for your branch to call for PPO or pan card when particulars are available in the system itself.

Hope Sir, the branches still permit offline submission of Life certificates.HRMS site appears to be in trouble.As soon as we try to login, change passward option jumps in.When we click it, it remains standstill.So I intend to approach my br to submit it.

Dear Friends, 

Even Indian Overseas Bank too asks details of Spouse , probably for updation purpose . When all the details are already available in the Pensioner's biodata , as updated , the reason for getting confirmation , could only to be updated on the date of Life Certificate , i hope. 

Whatever it may be, it could be a better idea for updation , for so many lapses , which could happen in Branches unintentionally.

And I wonder, why EVERY BLESSED Year they want to know if you are alive!! As if, these old pensioners’ heirs will swindle the banks into crores for the paltry pension they pay!???

Have suggested to the Minister that they should obtain Life certificates only for those beyond 90+, and the rest, the onus of reporting deaths of the pensioners should be led to the legal heirs and criminalise drawing and using pension post-death with a severe 10years imprisonment!!

If one actually has the data and looks into it, such criminal-minded people may not be 1% of the total pensioners and the so-called loss of pension to the banks may not be 0.00000001 % of a Nirav modi loan or a Mallya kind of loans!!

Spouse details are available in the PPO. 

There is no need to include it in the Life Certificate of the pensioner.

Mr Rajan,

 Every November,we used to  discuss these matters,under this forum.Later we submit LC to banks.

Let us focus on our unresolved major pending issues rather than  on these simple matter.

It is only  a practice followed by Central/State Govt LIC, and Banks who are paying pension to its retirees for past several years(even abroad too).Same has been accepted by pensioners through out our country.

For your information let me add here that In case of LIC  even policy holders who have taken Annuity payment option/Monthly pension scheme etc are akso need to provide Life Certificate every year.

Like Jeevan Pramaan digital certificate for pensioners in Govt/  banks, LIC has its own 'Jeevan Saakshya 'digital certificate' , link of which  they used to send to such policy holders to complete the process sitting at home.

These are all happening around us.

Our pension is paid as per BEPR,1995.

However, there is no statutory provision in our Bank Employees'  Pension Regulations,1995 on submission of Life Certificate every year.Still we submit as a practice .

Now in a digital era there are number of ways to submit LC.even without visiting bank branch.

SBI/Canara and few other banks have their own Video call facility.

It is a simple process.Is it not ideal to comply with?

Earlier in few banks, only our presence before Br.official was only requirement.Br.may submit Life certificate to Ho/ Zo even we need not sign.

Now I understand that different banks have added more columns in LC too.

Interestingly;

( In one of the PSBs, there is a  format now to apply for leave where Branch head need to furnish all sort of information like business figures  of past/present & growth /NPA etc with an undertaking to attend all calls of higher ups at any time during leave period!)

For those Bank employees advises to send Passport,Visa details when they r in abroad through e mail after calling for full details of employees such as Staff ,name,Datof Joinining,last place they worked,Staff No,PPO.No.After  getting the satisfied details from the Pensioner,life certificate is obtained through Video call  on Face Recognition

S.You are right.This annual ritual is a big head aches to many senior citizens. 

The pensioners associations should think of this hard ship and take up the issue at govt level and ease out 

the problem. 

One suggestion is instead of fixing a common time shedule and rush at branh level the optin of updating life certificate can be obtained before completing their birthday of individual date of birth as recorded in pension payorder.

After all the pensioners are x employees the legal heirs will not venture to indulge in with drawing money from deceased pensioners accounts. 

The enlightened members and retirees associations have to think on innovative 

ideas.

I have submitted Life Certificate to Central Bank in the last two years.  It was just signed by the consulate office incharge and submitted. 

No apostilling was insisted upon by the Bank.

Not sure if this an addition this year.

We don't deny whatever you have said.

The crux of the issue is many super senior citizens may not be familiar with digital technology who were working before the emergence of computers and digital technology. 

To ease this problem of super senior citizens some new home collection of life certificate can be implemented. 

And this job  can be entrusted to any outside agency with pay and use policy. 

This era is the era of innovations and comfort way of life for senior citizens.

quarterly payment is made by them.

I find that they are requesting for LC not

every year. I am submitting it once in three years

as per their requirement.

May be depending upon the Annuity Scheme, LIC is asking for Life Certificate.

I was advised to submit, LC, on my monthly Pension/yearly annuity policies, by providing the link for digital LC,through 'Jeevan Saakshya' 

I could submit the same smoothly.

Actually life certificate should invariably contain two clauses. 1. I am not reemployed as no person can draw two DAs. 2

 Not remarried. It enables nominee status.But most of the banks are asking some other details. Some banks are asking only life certificate.

Not Employed Certificate is applicable only for the first year after retirement. 

Not Married status is applicable only for family pensioners. Not for others. 

Life certificate is just to ensure the pensioner is alive to draw the pension.

Respected sir, 

You are 100% correct. However, the annual circular of invariably any bank, does not guide on these 2 aspects. Hence branches insists on them as they fear audit objections. 

When it is pointed out that Life certificate through jeevan praman doesn't have these two certificates, they reply that life certificate is updated at HO level itself. 

It is expected of the banks to guide the branches correct position of these certificates.
