OTing this

You may want to consider running barefoot. A lot of people are trying
that with good results - I personally experience lesser knee related
pains. Only trouble is if your calf is not trained enough.

To begin with a lot of people try Vibrams & Vivo - both have their
advantages. I have a pair of Vivo and I am pretty happy about it. The
big toe box it makes it very comfortable.

I've blogged about my experience here.

And I do mean it. Walk gently at first, keep picking up pace. I know I
am not as overweight as you, but I had my issues with knee and ankle
pain. After last week's run, I am fine. No knee issues and some small
pain on my sole and ankle, but nothing to worry about.

BTW I have a torn right ankle ligament.

I use ASICS. Available at Decathlon. This brand feels real good over the other brands I have tried...Reebok, Nike, Adidas.

James,

I guess you are looking for cushioned running shoes (and not the
minimal/barefoot shoes).

Cushioned running shoes are of three different types, one for
overpronation, neutral and underpronation. This is a simple test to
find out which foot type you are (http://www.runnersworld.com/article/
0,7120,s6-240-319-326-7152-0,00.html).

My piece of advice, try getting to a showroom (not necessarily single-
branded ones), and ask for a running shoe. The staff must look at the
way you walk, run and land, and suggest a shoe for you. If they dont,
they are only selling you crap.

Alternatively, you can go a sports doc (who knows a little about
running), and ask him to suggest. Again, they should look at the way
you walk and run.

Try Sigma Mall Cunningham road, or Garuda Mall (dont remember the shop
names). I have heard that they do a decent job.

Asics, Adidas and Nike (in that order) are the better running brands
available in India. NewBalance, Saucony, Brooks are some of the other
better global brands.

Good Luck,
Uday

Chiddu,

Congratulations on your superb performance at TCS.

So well narrated and experienced the transition to Barefoot running. When some one asks about transition to barefoot, now it is so simple just guide them to ur blog.

In your Blog it was so clear Barefoot running is so much joy and deeper running experience.

Very truly,
aNIL s kadsur

Superb.

Generally I avoid lengthy blogs, this one I just couldn't. The narration was so gripping, u can start a sports magazine with this kind of talent / knowledge and experience.

Hats off to u, request u, Ak and other specialists to give a talk some time for the benefit of others.

Thank you very much, who have helped me and provided suggestions on running shoes.

I read chidu's story about his barefoot running in TCS marathon which he shared yesterday, his story inspired me to do lots of research on the internet . I spent nearly around 3 to 4  hours on researching for information in internet about barefoot running and found out lots of data about bare foot running.

I liked this - " Mr- Sharath is the only indian who is certified barefoot coach"

What did i do, using the information about bare foot running ?

Today i practiced in chinaswamy stadium using the bare foot strategy, The strategy speaks about 3 points.

1. Rythm
2. Basics
3. Relaxation

You know, from past 10 days, I used to run 10 kms but was having little pain in ankles and kees. But after getting the "GYAN" of barefoot running, today I applied the barefoot running strategy while running.

The results are amazing, no pain in any part of the leg. I am really amazed with the barefoot running techniques.

3 persons whom iam grateful for the support details

Cheer's to Anil and Chidu, Your information have really helped me in getting inclination towards bare foot running.

Mayank also recomended barefoot running but asked me to get in touch with Sharth, Anil and Chiddu for more information.

At last, Chidu, the problems you faced and how you overcame it is really good to know. These are best practices of barefoot running for others.

One word to chiddu and Anil.

can we start a running group similar to BBC Group? so that cyclists in this group wont get offended regarding running posts.

BBC Group
Cheers for this group, its amazing i get my answers from people who are experts. I really love this group.

Bye noe!

Regards
Mahesh M
