Dear friends and colleagues,

I'd like to take the chance to introduce a recently completed
demonstration house built by INBAR in Bhutan with support from the
Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, Social Forestry Division. You can
find a small write up about the building on INBAR's website at:

http://www.inbar.int/show.asp?BoardID=98&NewsID=791

We will be supporting Bhutan to build a further three bamboo
structures in 2012 and hope to produce a publication on our
experiences by the end of the year.

Recently, I was also approached by UN Habitat for information on any
good case studies where bamboo has been used in urban slum upgrading.
If you have been involved in any such projects, or know of good
examples, please contact me (obf...@inbar.int)

Many thanks,

Olly

Hi Olly

I am not sure whether you can remember me from TRADA, UK. I think I met you at INBAR in Beijing, sometime back. I am very interested in involving in housing in bamboo in Bhutan. We did develop few housing systems in bamboo some of which INBAR is aware of during Shyam's time. I have worked with bamboo with INBAR many years ago. Our book on Bamboo in construction was published jointly with INBAR funded by DFID. My interest in Bhutan is I was a FAO expert in Bhutan for few times in timber technology and specially on wood preservation.

I am free to work through TRADA or as an individual.

Regards

Lionel (Jayanetti)

Dear Olly,

The Bhutan bamboo building is beautiful. Thank you for sharing!

I'm Andrea Fitrianto from Indonesia. I'd like to share a communtity
bridge project where I involved, an urban slum upgrading in Davao
City, The Philippines... A 23m span bamboo footbridge mainly consists
of Dendro. asper bamboo with concrete flooring. The bridge costs
USD7000 that is funded by a community loan facilitated by the ACCA
program of ACHR (www.achr.net) with facilitation of a Filipino NGO.
The construction was done through a community work. I thought, this
suits your inquiry.

Dear Olly,

For your infomation, Dr Lionel was very instrumental in Ghana first bamboo school building in 2003.

I have met him in Beijing a few times and he has worth of experience when it comes to bamboo housing.

Hope the two can work together.
