Around 20 years ago, Buddy started picking with now good friend, Joe
McElroy. A native Haywood Countian as well, Joe sings and plays
several instruments - guitar, bass and mandolin. Many may recognize
Joe's name and voice from Buddy's solo project. Joe shares the
vocals
with Buddy on “Blue and Lonesome“. Buddy and Joe would get together
and jam on a weekly basis and eventually put together a local band,
New Ground, which included co-writer Randy Burgess. As time went by,
the band disbanded but the friendships didn't. Buddy, Joe, Randy and
guitarist Terry Fisher continued to get together to pick. At one of
the get-togethers, "Julie's Train", was born. Joe had a few lines
and
together, the jammers finished it out. Buddy has had the song in his
files for many years and would occasionally bring it out and play it
through. While searching for material for Last Train to Kitty Hawk,
Buddy brought "Julie's Train" to the table. Liking the drive of the
tune, BALSAM RANGE quickly placed it on the short list and eventually
it made the final cut. Now the lead track on Last Train to Kitty
Hawk, “Julie's Train” has found a home and is becoming a highly
requested tune for BR!
