RICHARD NEWLAND has shared photos with you
RICHARD NEWLAND shared the album Blue Bumblebee, etc with you on Windows Live. <[link]> "Earlier this month the thistles were still blooming down by the river here in Tequisquiapan (central Mexico). What quickly became my focus of attention was a blue bumblebee. It actually looked as if a normal bumblebee had fallen into a can of flourescent blue paint. None of these photos have been edited in any way. That was the actual color of the bee. Is it a normal variation of a regular bumblebee? A mutation? Have you ever seen a bumblebee that color?..........Richard"... more »

Baltimore Oriole
I haven't seen a Baltimore Oriole in years. I don't really remember when I saw the last one, but I'm pretty sure I was riding with my mom, which means I didn't have my drivers license, which means it was at least... seven or eight years ago. I sort of was beginning to suspect that they weren't around here... more »

Birds, Bees, Butterflies, & Blossoms
Greetings to all. I'm attaching an "online album" made up of some photos I've taken recently here near my home in central Mexico. The thistles (I call them Canadian Thistles, but that might not be correct) have been blooming down by the river, and that means there are bees and butterflies available for picture taking. I don't know the names of most of these creatures, but I enjoy watching them just the same. These thistles are very popular, and quite often two or three bees share the same blossom.................Rich... more »

Grinnell System
Has anybody on here tried the Grinnell System of nature study? I'm really wanting to take my nature study to a new level, and the method I enjoy most is hand writing notes in a journal format. The Grinnell System is basically a very involved, organized journal. Here's a link if anybody's interested:... more »

Beach trip, etc.
Hi all! Not much going on here of late, I see. I lost my Google password or something, and so ended up making a new account. So I'm finally back again. I've been trying to make a practice of making species lists while on vacation, and my recent beach trip to the Myrtle Beach area turned up a nice little list of about twenty-five species.... more »

Winter reading
Hello ! Have been working on a "bug eaten leave award" and the Latin scientific names. It is hard work for me!! For diversion I do "other" reading. I found this book "In Perfect Timing" by Peter Caddy. It is about a "New Millennium" community that he started in Findhorn Scotland. And the part that interested me were the gardens.... more »
