చాలా మంది మహాత్ములు (ఉదాహరణకు: షిరిడీ సాయిబాబా, వెంకయ్య స్వామి, అక్కల్కోట స్వామి, రమణ మహర్షి), తమ భక్తులకు ప్రసాదించే కొన్ని లీలలలో, ముఖ్యమైన బోధలను, చక్కటి హాస్యంతో కలిపి (హోమియోపతి మందు లాగ?) అందించడం చూడవచ్చు. అటువంటి హాస్యంతో కూడిన లీలలలో కుడా, ఆ మహాత్ముల యొక్క సర్వజ్ఞ్యత్వము, సర్వ వ్యాపకత్వము, సర్వ సమర్థత తొంగి చూస్తోనే వుంటాయి. ఆ అనుభవాల ద్వారా భక్తునిలో అవసరమైన మార్పును ఎంతో నేర్పుగా తీసుకుని వస్తారు.

వివిధ మహాత్ములు ప్రసాదించిన అటువంటి లీలలను ఇక్కడ స్మరించుకుందాము. ముందుగా శ్రీ పూండి స్వామి వారి చరిత్ర లోని అట్టి కొన్ని లీలలతో ప్రారంభిద్దాము :

తాంబరం (తమిళనాడు) అనే ఒక ఊరి క్లబ్బులో నలుగురు పేకాట ఆడుతున్నారు. వారిలో ఒక బస్సు ఓనరు; మిగిలిన వారు వ్యాపారస్తులు. వీరిలో ఒకడు శ్రీ పూండీ స్వామి వారి భక్తుడు. అతడు, "స్వామి! నాకు మంచి కార్డులు రావడం లేదు. మంచి కార్డులు వచ్చేటట్లు చెయ్యండి." అని ప్రార్ధించాడు. అది విని బస్సు ఓనరు, "సోమరిపోతులంతా తమకు తాము భక్తులుగా ప్రకటించుకొని, ప్రజలను మోసం చేసి, తిని తిరిగే వాళ్ళు" అని అన్నాడు. దానిపై వారు కొంత చర్చ జరిపారు. అప్పుడు బస్సు ఓనరు, "ఈ ఆటలన్నింటిలోను నేనే గెలిస్తే, గెలిచిన డబ్బులతో మిమ్మలను ముగ్గురినీ శ్రీ స్వామి వారి దగ్గరకు తీసుకు పోతాను." అన్నాడు. అదే విధంగా ఆటలన్నింటిలో అతడే గెలిచాడు. మాట ప్రకారం అతడు వారిని శ్రీ పూండీ స్వామి వారి దగ్గరకు తీసుకు వెళ్ళాడు. వాళ్ళను చూడగానే శ్రీ స్వామి వారు - "క్వీన్, కింగ్, జోకర్" అన్నారు. ఆ మాటలు వింటోనే, వారికి వణుకు పుట్టింది.

బస్సు ఓనరు నమస్కరిస్తుంటే - "వారు సోమరిపోతులు, ప్రపంచాన్నిమోసం చేసి బ్రతుకుతున్నారు!" అని అనగానే, ఆ బస్సు ఓనరుకు ప్రాణం పోయినంత పనయ్యింది! తన భక్తుడు నమస్కరిస్తోంటే, "ఏమయ్యా, నీకు మంచి కార్డులు రావాలని నన్ను పిలుస్తావా? నేను మంచిగానే వున్నాను; నన్ను మోసగానిగా అందరికీ పరిచయం చేస్తావా? మంచిని పొందేందుకు, మంచిగా అలోచించండి, మంచి చెయ్యండి." అని అందరికీ హితవు పలికారు. పేకాట వంటి వ్యసనాలలో ఉన్నా, వారిని ఈ అనుభవంతో సంస్కరించి, భక్తి విశ్వాసాలు గల సత్ పౌరులుగా మార్చారు.

In the lives of Mahatmas (for example: Saibaba of Shirdi, Venkaiah Swami, Swami Samartha, Ramana Maharshi), we come across many leelas where the they beautifully interleave profound-teachings with excellent-humor (similar to Homeopathy medicine?). Through this process, they bring the much needed transformation in devotees in a very pleasant manner! In such leelas, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent nature of the Sathguru is also imprinted in the minds of the devotees.

In this thread, We will keep posting such pleasant :-) teachings of various Mahatmas!
I will begin with such leelas of Sri Poondi Swami:

In a club in Tambraram (Tamilnadu), four people were playing cards.  There was one bus owner among them, and the remaining three were businessmen.  One of the businessmen was Swami’s devotee.  While playing the game, he prayed,  “Swami! I am not getting proper cards. Bless me so that I can get nice cards to win!”.  Hearing that, the bus owner said, “All the lazy fellows announce themselves to be devotees and cheat people for their food”.  They had some discussion about that.  Then the bus owner said, “If I win all these games, I’ll take you to Swami with that money”.  After that, he won in ALL the games.  As per his promise, he took the remaining three guys to Swami’s darshan.  As soon as Swami saw these people, He told, “Queen, King, Club, and Joker”.  They shivered with fear on listening to those words!

When the bus owner prostrated to Swami, He told”They are lazy fellows; they lead their life by cheating other people”.  The bus owner was stunned at Swami’s words. When the devotee among the businessmen bowed, Swami asked, “You prayed me that you wanted nice cards; didn’t you? When I am a gentle man, why did you introduce me as a cheater to them? Think good for getting good results. Do good”.  With this incident, Swami converted those people as good citizens with devotion and faith who were previously indulged in bad habits.

నెల్లిమేడు శివరామ గోవిందు భార్య శ్రీ స్వామి వారికి మంచి భక్తురాలు. వాళ్ళ ఆవు సుఖంగా ఈనితే, శ్రీ స్వామి వారికి ఒక గ్లాసు నిండా పాలు ఇస్తానని  మ్రొక్కుకున్నది. ఆవు ఈనిన తర్వాత తన కుమార్తె ద్వారా శ్రీ స్వామి వారికి పాలు పంపుతోంటే, ఆ ఇంటి యజమాని, "పండ్లు తోముకోని ఆ స్వామికి పాలెందుకు ఇవ్వడం?" అని అన్నాడు; కానీ ఆ పాప పాలు తీసుకు వెళ్ళింది. ఆ పాపను చూస్తోనే శ్రీ స్వామి వారు, "ఆ పాలు మీ ఇంట్లో పండ్లు తోముకునే స్వామికి ఇవ్వు, నాకు వద్దు!" అన్నారు. ఆ పాప వెళ్లి ఆ మాట వాళ్ళ నాన్నకు చెప్పగానే, అయన పశ్చాత్తాపంతో పాలు తీసుకునివెళ్లి, శ్రీ స్వామి వారికి ఇచ్చి క్షమించమని వేడుకున్నాడు. కానీ శ్రీ స్వామి వారు, "నేను పళ్ళు తోముకున్నప్పుడు పాలు త్రాగుతాను, ఇప్పుడు వద్దు తీసుకుపో!" అని కసిరారు. ఈ విశ్వంలో అనుక్షణమూ ఎక్కడ ఏమి జరిగేది తనకు తెలుస్తుందని శ్రీ స్వామి వారు తెలియ జేస్తున్నారు.

అరణి నుండి ఒక భక్తురాలు శ్రీ స్వామి వారి దర్శనార్ధం వస్తూ, ఒక డజను అరటి పండ్లు తీసుకున్నది. వెంటనే ఒక కోతి వచ్చి సగం అరటి పండ్లు పెరుక్కు పోయింది. ఆమె చాలా బాధ పడింది; కానీ ఆ తర్వాత, ఆ కోతిలో కూడా ఆత్మ వుంది కదా అనుకుని సరిపెట్టుకున్నది. శ్రీ స్వామి వారిని దర్శించి, మిగిలిన అరటి పండ్లను వారికి సమర్పించేందుకు వెనుకడుతోంది. ఆప్పుడు శ్రీ స్వామి వారు తమను చూపించుకొంటో, "ఇందులో కూడా ఆత్మ ఉంది. ఈ ఆత్మ కూడా తింటాడు. ఆ అరటి పండ్లు ఇవ్వు!" అని అడిగి మరీ స్వీకరించారు.

Coming back to His divine leelas.....

Wife of Sivarama Govindu (Nellimedu) was a great devotee of Swami. She vowed to Swami that she would offer a glassful of milk if her cow yeaned safely. After her cow yeaned, she was going to send a glass of milk to Swami through her daughter. Then her husband told, “Why to offer milk to that Swami? He does not even brush his teeth.” But that girl took the milk to Swami. On seeing her, Swami told “Give that milk to the Swami in your house who brushes his teeth. I don’t want!”  When that girl told those words to her father, he realized Swami’s greatness and he himself took the milk and offered it to Swami with repentance. He begged for Swami’s excuse. But Sri Swami said, “I will drink the milk when I brush my teeth, not now, you take it back.” Thus he conveyed to him that He knows everything about the happenings anywhere in the world.

Once, a devotee was coming from Aarani, brought one dozen of bananas for Swami.  Soon, a monkey came and grabbed half of them.  She initially felt very sad; later she was convinced herself with the feeling that even the monkey had Athma. Finally, she went for Swami’s darshan and was hesitating to offer the remaining fruits to Swami. Then Sri Swami, pointing to Himself, affectionately said, “Here also Athma is present and it will also eat bananas; give them to me.” Swami thus took the remaining bananas from her and ate them.

Not much humor is associated with this leela, but still wanted to post in the same thread .......


భగవంతుడు మననుండి కోరే మనస్సు, కాలము వారికి అర్పించకుండా, సిగరెట్లు, టీ లు మొదలగు అవసరాలెన్నో శ్రీ స్వామి వారికి సమపర్పించే జనం ఎక్కువగా దర్శించేవారు.

ప్రతి నిత్యం ఒక పాలవాడు పాలు, టీ, కాఫీ ఏమైనా కావాలేమోనని శ్రీ స్వామి వారిని అడిగేవాడు. ఏమీ వద్దని నిత్యం శ్రీ స్వామి వారు చెప్పేవారు. ఒక రోజు ఆ పాలవాని సైకిలుకు తగిలించి ఉన్న ఇరవై ఐదు లీటర్ల పల క్యాను తెమ్మన్నారు. తేగానే, ఆ క్యానులోని పాలన్నీ శ్రీ స్వామి వారు ఒక్కసారిగా త్రాగేసారు. ఆ పాలవాని సైకిలుకున్న మరొక ఆరు లీటర్ల పాల క్యాను తెమ్మని, ఆ పాలు కూడా త్రాగేసారు! ఈ రోజు ఖాతాదారులకు పాలు ఎలా పొయ్యాలి అనే ఆలోచనతో అతడు వెళ్ళిపోయాడు....

అతడు వెళ్ళగానే శ్రీ స్వామి వారు ఆ పాలన్నీ తిరిగి నేలపై కక్కేసారు. "ఈ పాలు ఎంత మంది తాగుతారు? వాళ్ళంతా ఏమైపోయాలి?" అని చెబుతో ఆ పాలల్లో ఉన్న బల్లిని, తేలును చూపించారు శ్రీ స్వామి వారు. తమిళనాడు ముఖ్య మంత్రి అన్నాదురై గారు మరణించడంతో, ఆ ముందటి రోజు అంగళ్ళన్నీ మూసేసారు. ఆ రోజు పాలు అమ్మే వీలు లేక, ఆ పాలను ఫ్రిజ్లో పెట్టి ఈ రోజు అంగళ్ళకు పోసేందుకు తీసుకుపోతున్నారు. అనుకోకుండా ఆ పాలల్లో బల్లి, తేలు పడి చచ్చి ఉన్నందున ఆ పాలన్నీ చెడిపోయాయి. ఈ విషయం మిగతా ఎవరూ గుర్తించక పోయినా, సర్వజ్ఞులైన ఆ కరుణామయులు  అంత మంది ప్రాణాలు కాపాడారు. మన ప్రార్ధనతో నిమిత్తము లేకుండానే భక్త రక్షణ చేసే కరుణామయులు శ్రీ స్వామి వారు.

God actually expects from us to offer Him our time and our mind. However, many people used to just visit Him offering neither time nor mind; rather they used to just offer Him apparent needs like Cigarettes, Tea etc.

A milk vendor used to ask Swami daily, whether he would like to have coffee, tea or milk!  Swami used to reject his offers all the time! However, once, Swami asked him to bring to him the 25-liters can of milk that was tied to his bicycle. As soon as he brought it, Swami drank the entire milk. After that, Swami asked to also bring the another 6-liters can tied to his bicycle, and drank that milk too!!! The vendor left the place worrying how to manage now with this regular customers......

After he left that place, Swami vomited the entire milk that he had drunk.  He showed a dead Lizard and a Scorpion in that milk and said, “How many people would have died if they had drunk this milk?”.
Here is what had actually happened: On the previous day, since the Tamilnadu Chief Minister Annadurai has died, all the shops were closed; Thus, there was no chance for the milk-vendor to sell the milk to tea-shops; so he kept the milk in fridge and was now going to sell it. Without his notice, a Lizard and a Scorpion fell into that the milk and died; the milk got poisoned. Whosoever drinks the milk, would have died! Though nobody was aware of that, omniscient Swami saved the lives of all those people. Swami is a personification of compassion saving the people without caring for whether they prayed to Him or not.

ఒక భక్తుడు బాబాకు దక్షిణగా శ్యామా పేరిట రూ. 2 మనియార్డరు పంపాడు. అది చేరినప్పుడు బాబా భిక్షకు వెళ్ళారు. ఆయన సర్వజ్ఞతను పరీక్షించదలచి, శ్యామా ఆ కాసులు మసీదు ముంగిట పాతిపెట్టాడు. ఆయన వాటి విషయమై ఏమీ అనలేదు. ఆరు మాసాల తర్వాత, శ్యామా ఇంట దొంగలుపడి సర్వం దోచుకుపొయారు. అతడు బాబాతో మొర పెట్టుకుంటే ఆయన నవ్వుతూ, "నీ ఇంట దొంగలు పడితే చెప్పుకోవడానికి నేనైనా ఉన్నాను. నావి రూ. 2 పోయి 6 మాసాలైంది. నేనెవరికి చెప్పుకోను!" అన్నారు. "అంతచిన్న తప్పుకు, ఇంత పెద్ద శిక్షా?" అన్నాడు శ్యామా. "నీలాంటి ఉద్యోగికి అదెంతో, నాలాంటి ఫకీరుకి రూ. 2 అంతే" అన్నారు సాయి. ఈ లీలకు భరద్వాజ మాస్టారుగారు వ్రాసిన కామెంట్: "కర్మ సూత్రమెంత సూక్ష్మమో!" 

Many devotees from far and wide would write letters to Sai Baba of Shirdi. Shama was the one who read the letters aloud to Him and wrote a reply according to Sai Baba’s narration. Well, letters where not the only thing that were sent to Sai Baba through post. Many devotees would send money through post to Saibaba. Shama used to collect this money from the post office and hand it over to Sai Baba. Once it happened that a devotee had sent two Ruppes via post. Shama collected the money, on his way back somehow his intentions where changed. He did not return the money to Sai, instead he hide it over the door of huge room adjacent to Dwarkamai, where Ratha was accommodated, in a cervice of wall. One night there was a theft in Shama’s home. He was robbed of Rs. 250/-, quite a significant amount for a man like him in those days. Search was made for the lost money, police were reported, in vain. The thief or the money were not to be discovered. The depressed and angry Shama went straight to his Deva, and said, “Deva there was a theft in my house and two hundred and fifty Rupees, were stolen. Do you feel good about it? Poor man like me lost so much money. Deva, whom can I tell the tale of woe but You?" Sai Baba, who was calmly listening to the woes replied, “Arre Shamyaa, what is the matter? Because there was a theft, and you lost your money, you came to me with your complaint. But when My two Rupees were stolen, to whom should I complain?” Shama quick to understand the pointer of Sai Baba replied, “Arre Deva, so You caused this robbery to happen. You are great, because Your two rupees were stolen You caused two hundred and fifty rupees to be stolen from a poor man like me. What kind of punishment is this? I lost two hundred and fifty rupees, while You lost only two rupees. What kind of justice is this?”

Sai Baba replied, “The value of two hundred and fifty rupees for a poor man like you, has the same value of two rupees for a Fakir like Me.”

శిరిడీలో ప్రతీ ఆదివారమూ సంత జరిగేది. చుట్టుప్రక్కల పల్లెల నుండి ప్రజలు వచ్చి వీధులలో దుకాణములు వేసుకుని సరుకులు అమ్ముతూ ఉండేవారు. ప్రతిరోజు మద్యాహ్నము 12 గంటలకు మసీదు భక్తులతో నిండిపోయేది. ముఖ్యముగా ఆదివారమునాడు క్రిక్కిరిసి ఉండేది. ఒక ఆదివారమునాడు హేమాద్‌పంతు సాయిబాబా ముందు కూర్చుని బాబా పాదములొత్తుచూ మనస్సునందు జపము చేసుకొనుచుండెను. బాబాకు ఎడమవైపున శ్యామా, కుడివైపున వామనరావు ఉండిరి. శ్రీమాన్ బూటీ, కాకా సాహెబుదీక్షిత్ మొదలగువారుకూడా నుండిరి. శ్యామా నవ్వుచూ అన్నాసాహెబ్‌తో (హేమాద్‌పంతుతో), "నీ కోటుకు శనగగింజలు అంటినట్లున్నవి చూడుము" అనెను. అట్లనుచు హేమాద్‌పంతు చొక్కా చేతులను తట్టగా, శనగ గింజలు నేలరాలెను. హేమాద్‌పంతు తన చొక్కా ఎడమచేతి ముందుభాగమును చాచెను. అందరికీ ఆశ్చర్యము కలుగునట్లు కొన్ని శనగ గింజలు క్రిందికి దొర్లుట ప్రారంభించెను. అక్కడున్నవారు వానిని ఏరుకొనిరి.

ఈ సంఘటన హాస్యమునకు తావిచ్చెను. అక్కడున్న వారందరు ఆశ్చర్యపడిరి. ఎవరికి తోచినట్లు వారు శనగలు చొక్కాచేతిలో నెట్లు ప్రవేశించి యుండునో ఊహింపనారంభించిరి. శనగలు చొక్కాలో నెట్లు దూరి యచట నిలిచినవో హేమాద్‌పంతు కూడా గ్రహించలేకుండెను. ఎవ్వరికి సరియైన సమాధానము తోచక జవాబు నివ్వనపుడు అందరునూ ఈ అద్భుతమునకు ఆశ్చర్యపడుచుండగా, బాబా, "వీనికి (అన్నాసాహెబుకు) తానొక్కడే తిను దుర్గుణ మొకటి గలదు. ఈనాడు సంతరోజు; శనగలు తినుచూ ఇక్కడకు వచ్చినాడు. వాని స్వభావము నాకు తెలియును. ఈ శనగలే దానికి నిదర్శనము. ఈ విషయములో ఏమి ఆశ్చర్యమున్నది?" అనిరి.

హేమాద్‌పంతు - "బాబా, నేనెప్పుడూ ఒంటరిగా తిని యెరుగను. అయితే, ఈ దుర్గుణమును నాపై ఏల మోపెదవు? ఈనాటికి ఎన్నడునూ శిరిడీలోని సంత నేను చూచి యుండలేదు. ఈరోజు కూడా సంతకు పోలేదు. అట్లయినచో నేను శనగలను ఎలా కొనగలను? నేను కొననప్పుడు నేనెలా తినగలను? నా దగ్గర ఉన్నవారికి పెట్టకుండా నేను ఎప్పుడూ ఏమియూ తిని యెరుగను."

బాబా - "అవును అది నిజమే. దగ్గరున్న వారికి ఇచ్చెదవు. ఎవరునూ దగ్గర లేనపుడు నీవుగానీ, నేనుగానీ ఏమి చేయగలము? కానీ, నీవు తినుటకు ముందు నన్ను స్మరింతువా? నేనెల్లప్పుడు నీ చెంత లేనా? నీవేదైనా తినుటకు ముందు నాకు అర్పించుచున్నావా?"


ఈ లీలనుండి నేర్చుకోవలిసిన బోధ (శ్రీ హేమాద్‌పంతుగారు వివరించినది):
మనము గురువుని స్మరించనిదే ఏ వస్తువును మన మనస్సు మరియు మన ఇంద్రియములతో అనుభవించరాదు. మనస్సునకు ఈ విధముగా శిక్షణను ఇచ్చినచో మనము ఎల్లప్పుడునూ బాబాను జ్ఞప్తియందు ఉంచుకొనగలము. బాబా ధ్యానము ఎన్నో రెట్లు వృధ్ధి పొందును. బాబా సగుణ స్వరూపము మన కండ్ల ఎదుట నిలుచును. మన మనస్సునందు బాబాను ఎప్పుడైతే నిలుపగలమో, అప్పుడు ప్రపంచ సుఖములందుగల అభిలాష క్రమముగా నశించి, మన మనస్సులు శాంతిని, ఆనందమును పొందును.


In Shirdi, bazar was held every Sunday, and people from the neighbouring villages came there, erected booths and stalls on the street, and sold their wares and commodities. Every noon, the Masjid was crowded more or less; but on Sunday, it was crowded to suffocation. On one such Sunday, Hemadpant sat in front of Baba, massaging His Legs and muttering God's name. Shama was on Baba's left, Vamanrao to His right - Shriman Booty and Kakasaheb Dixit and others were also present there. Then Shama laughed and said to Annasaheb - "See that some grains seem to have stuck to the sleeve of your coat". So saying he touched the sleeve and found that there were some grains. Hemadpant straightened his left fore-arm to see what the matter was, when to the the surprise of all, some grains of gram come rolling down and were picked up by the people who were sitting there.

This incident furnished a subject-matter for joke. Everybody present began to wonder and said something or other as to how the grains found their way into the sleeve of the coat and lodged there so long. Hemadpant also could not guess how they found an entrance and stayed there. When nobody could give any satisfactory explanation in this matter, and everybody was wondering about this mystery, Baba said as follows :-


Baba - "This fellow (Annasaheb) has got the bad habit of eating alone. Today is a bazar-day and he was here chewing grams. I know his habit and these grams are a proof of it. What wonder is there is this matter?"

Hemadpant - "Baba, I never know of eating things alone; then why do you thrust this bad habit on me? I have never yet seen Shirdi bazar. I never went to the bazar today, then how could I buy grams, and how could I eat them if I had not bought them? I never eat anything unless I share it with others present near me".

Baba - "It is true that you give to the persons present; but if none be near-by, what could you or I do But do you remember Me before eating? Am I not always with you? Then do you offer Me anything before you eat?"


Teaching from the Leela (explained by Sri Hemadpant):
We should not enjoy any object with our mind and senses without first remembering our Guru. When the mind is trained in this way, we will be always reminded of Baba, and our meditation on Baba will grow apace. The Saguna-form of Baba will ever be before our eyes. When Baba's Form is thus fixed before our mind, the attachment to worldly pleasures will gradually disappear and our mind shall attain peace and happiness.

అణ్ణా చించణీకర్ అను ఒక బాబా భక్తుడు ఉండేవాడు. అతను సరళుడు, మోటువాడు, ఉన్నది ఉన్నట్లు మాట్లాడేవాడు, ఎప్పటిది అప్పుడే తేల్చువాడు. బయటకు కఠినునివలే కనిపించేవాడుగానీ, నిజానికి అతడు చాలా మంచి హృదయము కలవాడు. అందుచే బాబా అతనిని ఎంతగానో ప్రేమించేవారు. ఒక మద్యాహ్నము అతడు బాబా ఎడమ చేతికి మర్ధనా చేయుచుండెను. బాబాకు కుడివైపున వేణుబాయి కౌజల్గి అను ఒక వృధ్ధురాలైన వితంతువు ఉన్నది. ఆమెను బాబా, 'అమ్మా' అని పిలిచేవారు; ఇతరులు 'మావిశీబాయి' అని పిలిచేవారు. ఆమెదీ స్వచ్చమైన హృదయము. ఆమెకూడా ఆ సమయంలో బాబాను సేవించుచుండెను. ఆమె బాబా నడుమును, మొలను, వీపును తన చేతి వేళ్ళతో నొక్కుచుండెను. ఆమె దీనిని అతి తీవ్రముగా చేయుచుండెను. బాబా వీపు, కడుపు కలిసిపోవునట్లు కనిపించుచుండెను. ఇంకొక ప్రక్క అణ్ణా మర్ధనా చేయుచుండెను. మావిశీబాయి ముఖము క్రిందకు మీదకు అగుచుండెను. ఒకసారి ఆమె ముఖము ఆణ్ణా ముఖమునకు చాలా దగ్గరగా వచ్చెను. ఆమె హాస్యముగా మాట్లాడు స్వభావము కలిగియుండుటచే, అణ్ణాతో, "ఒహో, అణ్ణా చాలా చెడ్డవాడు, నన్ను ముద్దు పెట్టుకోవడనికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నాడు. ఇంత ముసలివాడివి అయినా, జుట్టంతా తెల్లబడి పోయినా, నన్ను ముద్దు పెట్టుకోడానికి నీకు సిగ్గు లేదా?" అని అడిగెను. అణ్ణాకు కోపము వచ్చి, తన చొక్కా చేతులు పైకి మడుచుకుంటో, ఇట్లనెను: "నేను ముసలివాడను దుర్మార్గుడను అనుచున్నావు. నేను వెఱ్ఱివాడినా? నువ్వే అనవసరంగా కయ్యానికి కాలు దువ్వుచున్నావు."  అక్కడున్న వారందరూ ఈ ఇద్దరి ముసలివాళ్ళ దెబ్బలాటను చూచి నవ్వుకొనుచుండిరి. బాబా ఇద్దరినీ సమానముగా ప్రేమించువారుగనుక, ఇద్దరినీ ఓదార్చవలెనని తలచి, ఈ క్రింది విధముగా నేర్పుతో సమాధాన పరిచిరి. బాబా ప్రేమతో, "ఓ అణ్ణా! ఎందుకు అనవసరముగా గోల చేయుచున్నావు? బిడ్డ తన తల్లిని ముద్దు పెట్టుకున్నచో దానిలో తప్పేమున్నది?" అనెను. బాబా మాటలు విని ఆ ఇద్దరూ సంతుష్టి చెందిరి. అందరూ సరదాగా నవ్విరి. బాబా చమత్కారమునకు అక్కడి వారందరి హృదయములు ఎంతో ఆనందముతో నిండిపోయెను.


Hemadpant describes another witty incident, in which Baba played a peace-maker's part. There was one devotee by name Damodar Ghanashyama Babare alias Anna Chinchanikar. He was simple, rough and straightforward. He cared for nobody, always spoke plainly and carried all dealings in cash. Though he looked outwardly harsh and uncompromising, he was good natured and guileless. So Sai Baba loved him. One day, like others serving Baba in their own way, this Anna was, one noon standing prone and was massaging the left arm of Baba, which rested on the kathada (railing). On the right side, one old widow named Venubai Koujalgi whom Baba called mother and all others Mavsibai, was serving Baba in her own way. This Mavsibai was an elderly woman with pure heart. She clasped the fingers of both her hands round the trunk of Baba and was at this time kneading Baba's abdomen. She did this so forcibly that Baba's back and abdomen became flat (one) and Baba moved from side to side. Anna on the other side was steady, but Mavsibai's face moved up and down with her strokes. Once it so happened that her face came very close to Anna's. Being of a witty disposition she remarked - "Oh, this Anna is a lewd (bad) fellow, he wants to kiss me. Even being so old with grey hair he feels no shame in kissing me." These words enraged Anna and he pulled up his sleeves and said - "You say that I am an old bad fellow, am I quite a fool? It is you that have picked up a quarrel and are quarreling with me". All the persons, present there were enjoying this encounter between them. Baba Who loved both of them equally and wanted to pacify them, managed the affair very skillfully. Lovingly He said - "Oh Anna, why are you unnecessarily raising this hue and cry? I do not understand what harm or impropriety is there, when the mother is kissed?" Hearing these words of Baba, both of them were satisfied and all the persons laughed merrily and enjoyed Baba's wit to their heart's content.

ఆవేశమెన్నడూ తగదని సాయి ఎంత చమత్కారంగా బోధించారో! ఆయన ఒక భక్తుని దక్షిణ అడిగారు. అతను తనవద్ద పైకం లేదన్నాడు. అయినా ప్రతి 10, 15 ని||లకు అతనిని తిరిగి తిరిగి అడిగారు. చివరికతడు విసిగిపోయి, "నా వద్ద డబ్బు లేదంటూంటే!" అని గొంతు చించుకున్నాడు. సాయి కొంటెగా నవ్వి, "లేకపోతే లేదని నెమ్మదిగా చెప్పు. అదీగాకుంటే ఊరుకో, అరుస్తావెందుకు?" అన్నారు.

Sai once repeatedly asked a sadhu for dakshina of Rs.5/-. The latter said, in a temper, “You know that I have no money. Why do you ask me still?” Sai smiled sportively and said, “You may have nothing to give, but why lose your composure?” What a practical method of teaching!
