Jesse has re-assessed the political climate and has been reported as
leaning toward the Oakland folks now...

Look for neo-lingual Ebonic BART destination signs soon...

I think it's time for white-trash America to put down that
quart of beer, take that cigarette outta their mouths, git
their butts off that couch and demand that we all talk
"Murkin".

Bwaaaahahahahahahhahaaaa!

Now everybody with an accent and a regional slang is
going to demand that we learn their dialect of American
English in school. What a colossal waste of resources!

Can you say "jive"? There, I knew you could.

It's a marketing plan.. Oakland gets more money with more publicity.. and all those companies that make language tapes can make money..

Think about it for richer america they can learn Ebonics
"A-B-C-D-E-F-G Dude, Hooked on Ebonics Worked for Me Homes"

I have never seen an educated native born american (no matter what race/color/sex) speak jive, it's all lack of education.

He may be "leaning toward" the Oakland folks, but he's obviously still
uncomfortable with the whole idea. I saw him on TV no longer ago than
last night, and he was extremely careful not to accord "Ebonics" even
the status of a dialect. He repeatedly emphasized the importance of
teaching minority kids to speak and write the standard language and of
not endorsing non-standard colloquial speech patterns.

Jesse is a lot more conservative than he sometimes lets on. At least
one of his kids went to the same private school that my kids attended in
their junior high years. It's hard to imagine a more establishmentarian
place. :^)

You might start by understanding the issue first. That seems to be the
main problem here. The Oakland school board didn't suggest that children
be taught about the Ebonics vernacular.

They already know it. They're experts.

Unfortunately, some of the teachers have no clue what children are saying
because the slang is so thick. The idea is that the TEACHERS learn more
about what the students are already speaking, in order to teach them the
correct way.
