Can anyone (politely) suggest a good place to buy fresh seafood in either
Scotts Valley or Santa Cruz? The only place I've found that has an even
reasonable selection is Race Street in San Jose; it's a bit of a
pain-in-the-ass to go there.

Good referrals will be rewarded with my miracle seafood chowder recipe.

do you mean fresh fish restaurants or fresh fish stores?

Phil's Fish Market in Moss Landing is both a restaurant AND a fresh fish
market... Re: chowder, btw, they make some great stuff, including
cioppino ... http://www.philsfishmarket.com/fishmkt.html

Various fisherman sell catch of the day right off their boats down at the
s'cruz yacht harbor when things are in season.

Zanattos in S'Valley generally has a small but quality selection of
whatever is available fresh.

There used to be a great little fish market run out of a residential
garage on a alley off of Monroe or something near the Yacht Harbor, but it
closed years ago :(

Viable, put difficult to plan in advance for. Besides, I put a LOT of stuff
in my chowder...

Good idea. I hadn't thought of that.

There's the fish lady at the Wednesday afternoon Farmer's Market in
Santa Cruz. Her dad fishes every morning; you can get fresh salmon
all summer long from them. When the salmon season's over, they have
sole. Of course, it means getting into downtown SC on a Wednesday
afternoon. They open at 2:30 and go to about 6:00 or 6:30.

Shopper's Corner has good fresh fish, too.
