June 2001 - The Oregon Garden in Silverton, about 50 miles south of
Portland, will have a Grand Opening of a 240 acre, $16 million project which
includes a Children's Garden, Conifer Garden, Schmidt Pavilion, amazing
wetlands display, demo gardens, reflecting garden, terrace garden, Bosc,
Axis garden and Sensory garden. To get there, take I-5 to Keizer exit 260B,
left on Chemawa Road for 1 mile; continue 5 miles after it becomes
Hazelgreen Road; turn right on Howell Prairie Road and follow 2 miles to
Silverton Road (Hwy 213), then turn left to the first stop sign in
Silverton, then turn right on Westfield Street, to Main Street, turn right

2001 - The Eden Project is to be The Conservatory for the 21st Century, the
Eighth Wonder of the World, a gigantic geodesic-domed garden conservatory
the size of 35 football fields, the largest and highest free-standing
scaffolding structure on the planet, located in an abandoned china clay
quarry on the rocky southernmost coast of England in Cornwall. The $121
million project spans 361 feet at its widest and will contain 80,000 plants
in a cathedral-sized rainforest, in lush Mediterranean groves, and in the
native flora of the Atlantic woodlands. It has controlled climates, a
visitor center, restaurant, outdoor amphitheater, classrooms and a host of
educational displays, all promoting an understanding of the importance of
plants and their relationship to humans.
