"Owner Listens" app
<[link]> Interesting app from the owner of Oren's Hummus in Palo Alto. This is a pretty good idea, especially considering that Yelp now does so much filtering of reviews that their site has become less useful and... more »

E'Angelo, SF
Is E'Angelo (Chestnut St. in the Marina) any good? There's a coupon out currently: $37 for two three-course dinners. I ate there a long, long time ago, on a date, and I only remember two things about it: the restaurant had family-style seating, and the woman I was with kept touching her napkin to the corners of her mouth.... more »

Original Gravity Pub -- San Jose
We needed to get outside on the beautiful Saturday afternoon, so we went to try out the Original Gravity pub in downtown SJ, at 66 S. 1st Street, just around the corner from Gordon Biersch. According to the giant display hovering over the bar, they had 23 microbrews on tap, almost all from California and Oregon (Ninkasi's... more »

Best restriction of the month
"Please, no perfume, cologne or scented lotions." From an advertisement from Draeger's announcing a series of beer tastings: "Please join us to explore unique, complex and lively beers. All tastings will be in our San Mateo Market. There will be a nominal fee. Please, no perfume, cologne or scented lotions."... more »

Piqueo's, SF
The prices at Piqueo's are roughly 30% higher than the prices at my default Peruvian-style restaurant, Limon. The food at Piqueo's is approximately 10% better than the food at Limon. Piqueo's is a little quieter, and the service less hurried, than at Limon (5% better at Piqueo's). So overall the cost-benefit difference between the two... more »

Quick Take -- Justin's in Santa Clara
This is the restaurant in the old Wilson's Jewel Bakery space in the Franklin Mall area of Santa Clara. My wife and her galpal went: "Signature" crab roll: Meh, although pretty. Lunch salads: Good, but not great (She had the tofu salad, but spinach dominated it.) Dessert: Winner! Affogato Strata... more »

Summer drink
The French 75 is the cocktail reputed to have won the First World War, or started the Crimean War, or something. If you modify the French 75 by replacing the gin with pisco, you will have peace in our time. 1 ounce of (gin, in the original French 75) pisco 1/2 ounce of (simple syrup, originally) pineapple gum syrup... more »
