"Please, no perfume, cologne or scented lotions."

From an advertisement from Draeger's announcing a series of beer
tastings: "Please join us to explore unique, complex and lively beers.
All tastings will be in our San Mateo Market. There will be a nominal
fee. Please, no perfume, cologne or scented lotions."

How about I just don't bathe for a week before I come?
That follows their guidelines.

Why the passive aggressiveness?

Is the passive bit not washing?

What is the agggressive bit?

Smelling as a result of not washing?

Depends on what you smell like. If you smell like the Empress
Josephine, you'd be more than welcome. Napoleon wrote to Josephine
from a campaign, "I will return to Paris tomorrow evening. Don't
wash." (Other accounts replace "tomorrow evening" with "two weeks.")

Of course, it's hard to know what Josephine smelled like. And some
histories say she bathed every day.

How often do you bathe on average?

Trying to circumvent their request to be without strong orders when
participating in their beer tasting just to show them up.

Classic passive-aggressive behavior.

Really? Seeing as the original purpose of fragrances is to
mask body odours, why would they object?

Just about every cosmetic has fragrance, even deoderants
oddly enough.

So, after a hard day on the construction site fragrance
free, do not be upwaind from anyone.

Napolean was French. The French used to lead in the
perfume business, it covered nasty smells. In those days, there
was not a lot of bathing.

The Napolean quote as taught to me by my French speaking
father was "Ne lavez pas je reviendrai".

There is a Worth perfume called "Je Reviens", which alas
the Goggle monster translates as "I come". I always wondered if
the name was inspired by the Napolean Josephine tale.

She may have, but how much?

When there are hot showers, daily. When up country? Not at
all.

For a different view, here's a link to nice interview with Jancis
