The Bay Area English Regency Society sponsors informal (casual dress) dance
parties at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (600 Colorado Avenue, a block and a half
West of Middlefield, in Palo Alto) on the second Friday of each month (except
January, August, and December). Most months we focus on dances from Jane
Austen's England.
Admission $8. All dances taught or prompted, usually by Alan Winston (an
excellent beginner-friendly caller who has led country dancing in 10 states
and two countries).
Newcomers welcome, no experience necessary, no partners required - the custom
in the late 1700s was was to change partners frequently - live music. Casual
dress. Wear shoes you can dance in and that won't mar the floor. Doors
open at 7:45; dancing begins at 8:00 and continues (with a mid-evening break)
until 10:30. Some light refreshments are provided; contributed refreshments are welcome.
