Would you believe that 87 year old Art Laboe, the founder of the "Oldies But
Goodies" oldies record label, and longtime Southern California DJ and
promoter is STILL doing a regular DJ show and promoting shows? I remember
listening to him on XERB growing up here in the Bay Area.

It was funny; my mom bought me some of Art Laboe's "Oldes But Goodies"
albums in the 1960s and the songs had familiar titles, but the songs were
sung by different people! It was years later that I learned that many of
the songs I grew up with were white cover versions of earlier ones done by
black and Italian doo wop singers.

He is about to be inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame. I met him a
couple of years ago at a tribute luncheon hosted by LARadio.com; he's
a very nice guy and has worked hard for his money and recognition.

What took 'em so long!!! ;)

Seriously, as a rock-&-roll aficionado and as a DJ, that series ("Oldies but Goodies Vol __" were (and still are) heaven-sent!

Laboe's going in with Howard Stern and Terry Gross. Talk about an odd
