"Performance Today" carried nationally, but not in
San Francisco (though it is carried on 13 stations
in Alaska and everywhere in the South), is NPR's
classical music program. Host Fred Child plays
recent performances of symphony orchestras
around the world. It is actually produced by American
Public Media.

An interesting weekly feature is Bruce Adolphe's
Piano Puzzler. He plays a piano arrangement of
a contemporary pop song in the manner of a
historic composer, and a listener tries to identify
the composer whose style is imitated and the
name of the piece.

For instance, today, he played an
arrangement of "Take the 'A' Train"
(Strayhorn / Elllington) in the manner
of Robert Schumann. Sort of fell
right out.

I like it too.

It -is- on in the SF area - on KRCB-FM, 90.9/91.1 in Santa Rosa, weekday
mornings 9:05-noon. KRCB-FM is also on the Comcast bay area TV-FM ring on
961, and online at www.krcb.org
