Ed Litton in Richmond and Rick @ D+D Cycles in San Lorenzo both do
excellent work. Ed painted my wife's mountain bike, and Rick painted
my mountain bike - both were re-paints, both guys did a great job.

building and frame repair.

Litton does really great work.
I'd recommend Ed Litton over Drip & Delay ... errr ... D+D.

Gee Steven, I was really trying to not say anything if I couldn't say
anything good.
Ed's shop is a very groovy place to visit. He has some neat old road
bikes hanging up, and he's happy to talk bikes, paint, etc.

I would like to expand on the comments about D & D Cycle Service in
San Lorenzo at the end of Grand Ave. (I think).
I have seen some really excellent work come out of that place. I have
some very good service from them.
However, I've never got a good paint job from them and I've seen some
real screwups. Several frames that I or friends had painted there
started shedding paint while they were hanging from the hooks before
anyone even touched them. This is a sign that they were careless with
the preparation. While at their shop I observed a welder reach up and
grab a couple of frames that had already been prepped and moved them
to a different location. These frames had been directly over the
workbench that this guy had been welding at and not only that but the
guy had greasy hands when he did it. That is why I think that these
frames start losing paint without anyone even touching them.
On the other hand, I believe they do paint jobs for Ritchey and
several other builders in the area and those bikes have excellent
workmanship on them. So I would withhold judgement on their quality
but I wouldn't go in there as a private bike owner and expect to get a
quality paint job.
D+D painted my Otis Guy mountain bike in '95. I've beat on it pretty
good over the years, and the paint held up very well. I was quite
surprised that it wasn't more hashed. So when I stripped it down for
paint and a rebuild this year I sent it to D+D. I saw it bead blasted,
and there was no rust damage anywhere on the frame.
The new paint job is pretty, no runs, and after a mountain biking road
trip to Moab, Durango and Tahoe it still looks good.
I'll reply with a link to a pic tonight.
I have a feeling Ed is more of a perfectionist than Rick, just saying
that I've had good experiences with D+D. (Rick)

That was taken on the way down to the Green River canyon, near Moab,
UT.
It's sort of a loud Molteni motif. No chips in the paint yet. I had
Otis shave off the old cantilever brake braze-ons, add disc caliper
braze-ons, and it's all Deore XT. That's a JP Morgen suspension stem.
Me gusta! I just wish it had an oversize threadless headset.
