John Forester talk
In Mike Jacoubowsky's recent post "3ft passing requirement revisited” John Forester was mentioned. It occurred to me that some people might not know much about Forester. I came across this video of a recent talk by Forester. This is also relevant to the recent discussion concerning the downtown San Jose bike paths.... more »

Looking for a decent Cruiser Bicycle, Mixte frame
I know nothing about cruiser style bicycles, only having seen them at places like Target. Are there any good quality, multi-speed cruisers (3 speed or 7 speed)? Maybe no such thing exists.

If I want to increase the length of the ride and start from my work place in SF south of market area what would be a relatively safe and easy route - avoiding hills, cars and not so great neighborhoods.... more »

Died of an... more »

San Jose new bike lane design... all good?
Reading the piece in Tuesday's SJ Mercury News about San Jose's new idea for a bike lane has me perplexed. I like the idea that the city wants to seriously find ways to encourage more people to ride. Good for people, good for the environment, good for bike shops! But the idea of a bike lane that's separated from the normal traffic is... more »

Caltrain + Bike to Outside Lands
=v= Lots of people biking to the big Outside Lands concert in Golden Gate Park last night! It's still going on all weekend. =v= I made a Bikely map of my route from the S.F. Caltrain station to an event in Golden Gate Park, and it's also suitable for this event: [link]... more »

3ft passing requirement revisited
I've wondered whether cyclists really need a law that requires cars to pass us no closer than 3 feet. I generally don't have too many issues out on the road, and it would seem that common sense and courtesy go a long way towards making the world a reasonable place to drive and bike. Until today. I didn't even really know what happened until I played it back in mind mind... more »
