Feb.25 - Saturday - Dark-sky weekend. Get away from the city
lights, to enjoy the night sky. Sunset is at 5:57 pm, and the
17% crescent moon sets at 9:57 pm.
Mar. 2 - Friday - Our beginner's astronomy class meets. Topic:
the moon. Indoors and Outdoors at Houge Park, 7:00 pm
Also on March 2 - Friday
Mar. 2 - Friday - Public observing session on the grounds at
Houge Park, featuring the gibbous moon, Mars, Venus, Jupiter,
the pretty Pleiades star cluster, and other show objects of
the late Winter sky. Star party hours: 7:00 until 10:00 pm.
Mar. 4 - Sunday - Solar program: Sun-spotting at Houge Park,
featuring our nearest star and our newest sun telescope.
Sun program hours: 2:00 until 4:00 pm.
Mar.10 - Saturday - General Meeting. Our speaker is Dr. Graeme
Smith of Lick Observatory; his topic: "Two Views Of The Moon".
In the hall at Houge Park, 8 pm.
Mar.11 - Sunday, 2 am -- Daylight Shifting Time begins. At 2 am,
advance your clocks to 3 am.
Mar.16 - Friday - Public observing session on the grounds at
Houge Park, featuring Venus, Jupiter, Mars, the pretty Pleiades
star cluster, and other show objects of the early spring sky.
The moon is absent. Star party hours: 8:15 until 11:15 pm.
Mar.17 - Saturday - Dark-sky weekend. Tonight's sunset is at
7:17 pm, and the 18% crescent moon rises at 4:51 am.
Mar.19 - Monday - Spring begins at 10:08 pm.
Mar.24 - Saturday - Another dark-sky weekend. Tonight's sunset
is at 7:24 pm, and the 6% crescent moon sets at 9:44 pm.
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
Houge Park is in San Jose, near Campbell and Los Gatos.
From Hwy.17, take the Camden Avenue exit.
Go east 4/10 mile, and turn right at the light, onto Bascom Avenue.
At the next light, turn left onto Woodard Road.
At the first stop sign, turn right onto Twilight Drive.
Go three blocks, cross Sunrise Drive, then turn left into the park.
From Hwy.85, take the Bascom Avenue exit. Go north about 3/10 mile,
and turn right at the first traffic light, onto White Oaks Road. Go
nearly 3/10 mile to the first stop sign, then turn left onto Twilight
Drive. You will now be passing the park. Turn right at the first
driveway, into the parking lot.
