NOTE: This Friday's SF Contra features the unique sound of Cotter's Ceilidh,
which combines the brilliant fiddling of Tuula Cotter, the stellar piano of
Patti Cobb, with the awesome harmonica of virtuouso Winslow Yerxa (author of
"Harmonica for Dummies"). Expect driving Celtic tunes with a possible detour
to Scandinavia. Worth checking out!

Saturday's Palo Alto contra features favorite fiddler Lee Anne Welch (backed up
by fiddlers Sarah Kirton and Julie Smolin, backstopped by killer Scottish
pianist Andy Imbrie) presenting "Sorceror's Apprentice", a band of her young
fiddle students, playing behind the smooth and friendly calling of Susan
Petrick.

English dancers: This weekend is the "Impropriety Weekend", featuring Brooke
Friendly teaching dances from her and Chris Sackett's three volumes of
"Impropriety" dance compositions, with music by 'Roguery', the West-Coast
all-star band of Anita Anderson, Dave Bartley, Jim Oakden and Shira Kammen. The
weekend will feature dance and music workshops and dances in various parts of
the Bay Area, starting out with a Friday-night dance at the Palo Alto Masonic,
the action moving to Berkeley for Saturday, with dancing at Christ Church
Berkeley and music and singing workshops at 1345 Martin Luther King (at Rose),
and more action in Sebastopol on Sunday.
