Dear Brother Vikram,
Thanks for your compliments.
To
answer your doubt:
(1) If you are using Windows Vista, you don't need to
enable any Unicode settings anywhere. You can straightaway start typing in
Unicode (in Tamil, Hindi, etc.) in ALL applications - like Notepad,
MS-Word, MS-Powerpoint, etc. [ For those of you
who are not aware yet, one can transliterate in Hindi
(in beta stage - Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, etc.) in ALL applications, using the latest version of Azhagi
(which is 6.1.1, as of now) released on 19th July 2009. For details on
multi-lingual transliteration, please visit http://azhagi.com/multi.html | For
downloading the latest 'Azhagi', visit www.azhagi.com as usual ]
(2) If you are using WinXP (Win2K, Win2003), then you
have to enable Unicode fully if your need is to type in Unicode
Tamil in certain specific applications - like
Notepad, MS-Word and MS-Powerpoint.
(3) Enabling Unicode
fully in your system is a very easy task only, which can be accomplished
within a very few minutes. Please visit http://azhagi.com/uniset.html to
find methods suggested therein to enable unicode fully. Please follow
the method which is convenient for you.
(4) Even after enabling Unicode fully, if your need is
to specifically type in Unicode Tamil in MS-Word or MS-Powerpoint, you need to
know certain additional one-time information. The same is available at http://azhagi.com/uniset.html#wordpp
(5) Please note that even without enabling Unicode
fully in Windows XP, one can type freely in Unicode Tamil in very many
applications, a list of which is as follows:
- Azhagi's Unicode
Editor [For those of you who are not aware yet, to start Azhagi's Unicode
editor, click on the 'Unicode Editor' button at the right top of Azhagi's
opening window. You can also press 'F8' to start this editor. In this
editor, apart from Tamil, you can transliterate in other Indian
languages too: Hindi (in beta stage - Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada,
etc.)]
- Wordpad (For those who don't know, you can
find 'Wordpad' here: 'Start->All
Programs->Accessories)
- ALL 'Open Office' applications like Writer,
Calc, etc. (version used for testing: 3.1.0)
- Outlook Express (version used for testing:
6.0)
- MS Outlook (version used for testing: Office
2002)
- MS Excel (version used for testing: Office
2002)
- MS Access (version used for testing: Office
2002)
- Internet Explorer (except in the address bar -
i.e. the place where we type website addresses; version used for testing:
6.0)
- Firefox (version used for testing:
3.5.1)
- Google Chrome (version used for testing:
2.0.172.37)
- Skype (version used for testing:
4.1.0.141)
- GoogleTalk (version used for testing:
1.0.0.104)
- Windows Live Messenger (version used for
testing: 8.1.0178)
(6) Yahoo Messenger (version
used for testing: 8.1.0.421) does not support Unicode Tamil typing without
enabling Unicode fully.
Important Note:
All the above points pertain to typing in Unicode
Tamil only. Otherwise, using Azhagi, one can always type in non-unicode Tamil
(i.e. in Tscii fonts like SaiIndira)
in ANY application (including MS-Word, Notepad, etc.) at any time.
