Hi ...

Looking back at an Irvine Herald article on the renovation of the Eglinton Tournament Bridge..

William Lee Ker in his book "Kilwinning" of 1900 states on page 326 that the current bridge was not the original Tournament Bridge which stood 100 yds nearer the Castle.

In describing the procession .... 'along the present road which leads to the stables where it turned sharp to the right towards the Lugton which was crossed by what is now called the Tournament Bridge, but which was then situated about 100 yards nearer the Castle and had three arches instead of two.'

If this is so, when was the present two arch bridge built and for what purpose ??

Admittedly, I haven't been to view the renovations which might give me this information ...
