Hello all...
I was born at Goldcraigs down the road from this
school in 1950 ...
My brother and sister attended the Lylestone School
before we moved down into the town....
The following information comes from my brother
.....
There was only a small cloakroom, a small staff
room, and a classroom which accommodated children of all ages .....
The Teacher was a Mrs.Templeton who lived in the
Woodwynd in Kilwinning who travelled up to the school every day....... and
retired a few years later to be replaced by a Mrs.Gilmour from Glasgow
...
So it seems that the Lylestone Schoolhouse was
separate from the School, wherever it was....
A Mr.& Mrs.Barr lived in the house / cottage a
wee bit further up the Auchentiber Road on the right hand side and bro is sure
it was called Lylestone Cottage ....
Mr.Barr drove a school meals lorry and Mrs.Barr was the school dinner lady
at Lylestone School ....
It's a shame this building has got into such a state ...
Best wishes with your research ...
