Hey Roadrunners!
Thursday's Beginner's practice had the biggest turnout of the season so far! We ran several drills to help our beginners master their tacking and jibing transitions. We also had time for a quick across the lake sail. I was out of town this weekend so thank you to guest coach Bill Records who lead a very successful practice for the Green Fleet on Saturday. They were able to run several races in preparation of the Turnback Canyon Regatta, which were scored. After four races it was very close: Marcus Tita came in first with 6 points. Second place went to Sam Peel with 7 points, followed by Jules Bettler in third with 12 points. Great job to all the competitors!
Basics/Beginners practice will be tomorrow, Thursday May 10th from 4:00 to 6:30. There has been some talk of changing the time of this practice but for this week, we will stick with the usual time. Next Thursday, the 17th, we will try 4:30 to 7:00. As of right now, the forecast is calling for a 60% of rain/thundershowers tomorrow afternoon. I will keep an eye on the weather and send out an email if practice is cancelled. If you do not hear from me via email by 2:00 pm, practice is still on.
This weekend, Green Fleet will practice on Saturday from 1:30 to 4:00. We will run more practices races this weekend to prepare for Turnback. We will have two starts to accommodate any Sunfish/Laser sailors who would like to attend. There is a chance of inclement weather this weekend as well. The same cancellation procedure applies– I will send out an email if practice is cancelled anytime prior to two hours before the practice starts.
Free Sail Sunday is on for this Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00! What better way to celebrate Mother's Day than taking your mom out for a family sail. A reminder that all AYC families and junior members are allowed to attend this session, regardless of involvement in the Roadrunner program. Please arrive anytime before 3:00 pm if you would like to sail. All sailors should be back on the dock by 3:45 to derig. Please note that if there are no sailors on the docks at 3:00, I will close things down and take off for the day, so please by on time!
Registration for the Turnback Canyon Regatta Memorial Day Weekend is now available on the AYC website. Registration for Optis is $45 but register before May 20th to receive $10 off. It should be a great weekend of racing for the Green Fleet and a great first regatta for many of our newer sailors. I encourage everyone to sign on up! Also, the Roadrunner Fleet Board still needs volunteers to help out with the Roadrunner Fundraiser on the Sunday for Turnback. We will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs to sell to the Turnback racers. Please show your support for our program and help us to raise money for some much needed new equipment (including new Opti sails!).
Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc. and remember to RSVP for practice! See you this weekend!
