Hey Roadrunners!
I hope you all had a great weekend! I have heard great things about Junior Big Boat Day and am so glad that you all enjoyed it! A big thank you to our volunteer skippers Bill Records, Barry Bowden, Tom & Polly Peel, Fred Ford, and Harry Polly!
This week is the last week of our Spring 2013 Junior Sailing season. The Opti I (Beginners/Basics) group will have practice as usual. All Saturday sailors are encouraged to register for the AYC Turnback Canyon Regatta. This week's schedule:
FRIDAY: 4:00-6:30 Beginners/Basics: We will be completing our swim check and capsize tests during this week's practice, so please come prepared to get wet!
SATURDAY: Turnback Canyon Regatta Day 1: Please see below
SUNDAY: Turnback Canyon Regatta Day 2: Please see below
UPCOMING EVENTS: MAY 25-26 TURNBACK CANYON REGATTA & BEACH PARTY: This weekend is the annual AYC Turnback Canyon Regatta & Beach
Party. This year we will be having a youth dinghy course to accommodate
all of our Opti (Opti II and higher), Laser, and FJ racers. We are still looking for a few more hands on Race Committee-- please contact me ASAP if you are interested. All participants should plan on arriving on Saturday morning during breakfast to check-in (8:00-9:30 am). The 9:30 Competitor's Briefing is MANDATORY for all competitors. Please note that lunch will not be provided. However, the juniors sailors will take a break mid-day so please pack a lunch! For more
details, including the schedule of events, see the Notice of Race
here.
Youth registration is now $55.00 and includes one t-shirt and dinner
wristband (additional shirts and wristbands may be purchased).
Register here. Please contact me to reserve an
AYC boat for the weekend or if you need help finding a skipper or crew.
ONGOING WEDNESDAY NIGHT SUNFISH/LASER RACES: As many of
you know, AYC hosts Sunfish/Laser races every Wednesday night May
through September (6:00 to dark). This event is open to sailors of all
ages. Also the juniors are welcome to come up to the clubhouse
after racing to enjoy snacks, drinks and discussion on rules, starts,
sailing techniques and racing in general. This is hosted by the
Sunfish fleet but all are welcome. Additionally, if anyone is interested in learning how
to do race committee, one or two are welcome to come aboard each week to
learn how a course is set up and a better understanding of the timing. Race
committee usually tries to leave the club around 5 to 5:30 pm, with the last
race not to start any later than 15 minutes before sunset.
If your Roadrunner is interesting in participating and would like
to borrow an AYC Laser or Sunfish, please let me know and we can make
arrangements. A reminder that AYC boat charters MUST be approved by me
prior to the event (including these races).
