Hey Roadrunners!
A crazy weekend of weather derailed our practices a bit. On Thursday, the winds were too strong for our beginners so we anchored a Pico and learned all about capsize recovery procedure. Thank you to all the parents for helping out. It was a great practice and the kids had so much fun. A big thank you to Bill Records for joining the Green Fleet on Saturday for a very informative chalk talk on starts. The added visual elements really helped our juniors to grasp the concepts presented. The winds were up to 30 knots so the on the water portion of practice was canceled. The juniors who stuck around to cheer on UT at the SEISA Coed Championships got quite a show. Sunday's free sail was unattended but junior sailor Sam Hollenbeck and his family crewed for Bill Records in the series race and came in first place! It is so great to see our Roadrunners involved.
Practices as usual for this week:
- THURSDAY: Basics/Beginners will be from 4:00 to 6:30. This week is game week! We will be playing tennis ball tag, capture the flag, and more. It should be a lot of fun so please join us. Remember that this practice is open to sailors of all skill levels.
- SATURDAY: Green Fleet will be from 1:30 to 4:00. We will be getting out on the water and applying what we learned last week about starts. Lasers/Sunfish will follow from 4:00 to 6:30.
- SUNDAY: Free Sail Sunday will be from 1:00 to 4:00. All AYC families and Roadrunner sailors are welcome to come down to the Rylander Pavilion during this time to take out a Sail Training Opti, Pico, Sunfish, or Laser. Please plan on arriving before 3:00 if you would like to sail. All boats should be back on the dock by 3:45 to derig before the session ends at 4:00.
Registration for both camp and PB&J is up on the AYC website! I want to remind everyone that we will not have regular weekly Roadrunner practices while camp is in session so I encourage everyone to sign on up. Also, we are still looking for CITs for summer camp (ages 15-16) and a Head Counselor over the age of 21. Please contact me if you (or someone you know!) is interested.
Please remember to RSVP for practice. See you this weekend!
