Weekly Roadrunner Update 4/3

Great week of practices! We finally had a Thursday with the right kind of wind for our beginners. The wind was beautiful again on Saturday for our Green Fleet. We had a great turnout with all but one of our Optis out on the water. We worked on our upwind sailing as we tried to make it all the way up to the dam. There was considerable improvement in sail trim and making headway. A great job by all participants!
Practices will be at their usual scheduled times this week except for Free Sail Sunday, which we will NOT have this week because of the Easter holiday. Please remember to RSVP to practice so I can reserve a boat for your sailor and so that I can plan an effective lesson based on class size and skill level. Also, a reminder to parents to please stick around to help out during practice if you can. According to club rules, in order to take the coach boat out for practice there must be two adults onboard the boat and one on the dock. No sailing knowledge or experience required! Parent volunteers are always greatly appreciated. Thank you to those of you who help out on a regular basis!
Looking ahead, Scott Young has invited our Roadrunners to the chalk talk portion of his Start Clinic on April 14th. The clinic starts at 1:00 so please be on time. Following the chalk talk, we will be practicing our starts out on the water.
We will also be having an Opti course as part of the Turnback Canyon Regatta the weekend of May 26th. This will be another great opportunity for the Green Fleet to gain some experience and show the rest of AYC what they can do! I will send out more details as I get them.
Registration for camp is up on the AYC website. I want to remind everyone that we will not have regular weekly practices while camp is in session. Our week-long camps are a great opportunity to keep your child on the water during the break. Camp activities include: racing, sailing games, destination sails, and windsurfing. This year I will be serving as the Camp Director so please let me know if you would like more information or have any questions.
