Hey Roadrunners!
Another great week of practices and another record-breaking turnout! Our beginners worked on their tacks aboard Sunfish and Optis on Friday night. Our Green Fleet racers took a much-earned break from the race course on Saturday. We played tennis ball tag and set up some boundaries to work on sailing in close quarters. Racing rules applied and the penalty for sailing out of bounds was a 720! All of our sailors did a great job and had a blast! Our FJ/Laser group also had a great time on Saturday practicing some windward-leewards. Thank you to all of our parents volunteers and supporters!
This week:
This week, I will be out of town so our schedule will be a little different. On Saturday in place of practice, all of our active Green Fleet and FJ/Laser sailors in good standing (Junior Sailing activity and equipment fees paid!) are invited to attend the Scott Young Dinghy Start Clinic at no additional cost. Scott Young is a world-class sailors and I know that all of our juniors will benefit from his instruction. The clinic is from 11:00-3:00. Juniors are not required to pay online but MUST RSVP to me by noon tomorrow (Thursday) if they would like to attend. AYC boats (Optis, Lasers, Sunfish and FJs) are available for the clinic-- please include which boat your junior would like to sail with your RSVP. Any parents who would like to participate in the clinic as well can register online at http://austinyachtclub.net/showArticle?startDate=04/20/2013. Full clinic and chalk-talk options are available! See more details on the attached flyer. Also, we are still looking for a volunteer to organize the lunch for the clinic (ordering and picking up sandwiches). Please let me know if you are interested and available to help out!
We will be having Free Sail Sunday on Sunday, thanks to volunteer Jeff Brock! Jeff will be in charge for the day so please be sure to check in with him upon arrival so that he can check you in and help you rig/launch if necessary. A reminder that AYC Optis, Lasers, Sunfish, Picos, and FJs are available at Free Sail. Participants must stay in sight of the dock at all time and be back at the Pavilion at 3:45 for de-rigging.
THURSDAY: RSVPs for the Scott Young Clinic are due BY NOON.
FRIDAY: NO BASICS/BEGINNERS PRACTICE
SATURDAY: 11:00-3:00 Scott Young Dinghy Start Clinic
SUNDAY: 1:00-4:00 Free Sail Sunday with Jeff Brock
