Weekly Roadrunner Update 11/8

Hey Roadrunners!

 

We had a lot of fun this past week out at practice. On Thursday, the wind was up, so we took all our beginners out on Bill Records' Pearson 26. Thank you to parents Jane Gordon and David Gamble for joining us! We all had a lot of fun and the Roadrunners loved the chance to get on a keel boat and take on the 20+ knots. Saturday was even windier so we kept our Green Fleet sailors Marcus Tita, Nick Compton, Marine Graby, and Matt Gibbons in the cove to work on tacking, body positioning, and right of way. They all hiked hard and really improved on sailing in close quarters. Really one of the best practices we've had!

 

This week we will NOT be having Beginner's practice on Thursday due to Daylight's Savings Time. With it getting dark so early, we won't have enough time to have a full practice after school. Therefore, we will be holding Beginner's Practice on SATURDAY at 10:00 am before our Green Fleet practice at 1:30 pm. These will be our last practices of the season so I look forward to seeing everyone out there! Saturday looks like it will be back up to 80 degrees but please keep your eye on the weather and come prepared with layers and extra dry clothes. Please specify which practice time you will be attending when you RSVP.

 

Looking ahead, on November 19th, our last day of the season, we will be having another Roadrunner Cruise. For those of you who attended the Cruise at the end of August, it will be very similar. We plan on loading up the Optis, Picos, and Sunfish and departing at 1:30. We will sail to a destination for lunch and then return to the club around 4:00. I will be sending out more information about lunch, boat reservations, etc. early next week.

 

On December 3rd we will be having a Roadrunner Work Party to repair our boats and facilities (which were very well-loved this season!) and help clear our new storage area.

 

December 10th is our Roadrunner Holiday Party! If any parents are interested in volunteering to help plan this event please let me know. Also feel free to forward along any suggestions for games, activities, decorations, etc.
