Hey Roadrunners!

Great job at practices this week! We had some challenging wind directions which made rigging and launching difficult so thank you to all the parents who helped out! Thank you to junior coach Ethan Froelich and parent helper Stefan Froelich for taking our beginners out on some gusty boat rides on Friday. Also many thanks to Philippe Bettler and Polly Peel for helping to set marks and run races for FJ/Laser practice on Saturday.

To allow me some more time between practices, I will be moving Green Fleet practice forward a half hour. The new time for Green Fleet practice is 1:00-3:30, effective this week! This week's practice schedule:

FRIDAY:       4:00-6:30 Basics/Beginners
SATURDAY: 1:00-3:30 Green Fleet
                   4:00-6:30 FJ/Laser
SUNDAY:     1:00-4:00 Mother's Day Free Sail

UPCOMING EVENTS:

MAY 12 MOTHERS DAY FREE SAIL: Come take your mom out for a sail for a Mother's Day Free Sail! All AYC members and their families are welcome to attend!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT SUNFISH/LASER RACES: As many of you know, AYC hosts Sunfish/Laser races every Wednesday night May through September (6:30 to dark). This event is open to sailors of all ages. If your Roadrunner is interesting in participating and would like to borrow an AYC Laser or Sunfish, please let me know and we can make arrangements. A reminder that AYC boat charters MUST be approved by me prior to the event (including these races).

MAY 18 JUNIOR BIG BOAT DAY: On Saturday May 18th from 1:00-4:00, juniors will be sailing aboard keelboats with AYC volunteer skippers and learning all about big boat sailing. Please note that this event will be in place of Friday and Saturday practices. To ensure that I have enough volunteers and boats lined up for the event, please reply by WEDNESDAY MAY 15th at 5:00 pm with the following information:

Number of junior participants:
Number of parents available to help out aboard a boat:

If you are a parent with a keelboat and are interested in volunteering as a Junior Big Boat Day skipper, please let me know!

This year we will be having a youth dinghy course to accommodate all of our Opti (Opti II and higher), Laser, and FJ racers. For more details, please see the Notice of Race here. Youth registration is $45.00 and includes one tee shirt and dinner wristband (additional shirts and wristbands may be purchased). Register before May 19th to avoid a $10.00 late registration fee!
