Roadrunner Update 2/2

I hope you all had an enjoyable and restful holiday break. I had a
wonderful time with family and friends in the Northeast but am happy
to be back in Texas and ready to start the 2012 Roadrunner season!
Please mark your calendars for the annual Roadrunner Regatta on March
3rd and 4th. This regatta is one of the biggest youth sailing events
in Texas and we are fortunate enough to host it right here at the
Austin Yacht Club. The Roadrunner Regatta is the second stop on the
Texas Sailing Association's Youth Circuit. Our juniors have been
working really hard over the past year and this regatta is a great
opportunity to gain some racing experience. I encourage all of our
youth sailors, especially our Green Fleet, to register and participate
in this event. The regatta is open to Optis, Lasers, FJs, and 420s. We
do have limited boats available, so please contact me ASAP if you
would like to reserve an Opti or Laser. Those interested in borrowing

We will be holding two Green Fleet practices prior to the regatta in
preparation. To ensure that our competitors get the most out of these
practices, I ask that ONLY those sailors who plan on participating in
the Roadrunner Regatta attend these practices. Practices will be
Saturday February 18th from 1:30 to 4:00 and Saturday February 25th
from 1:30 to 4:00. Please RSVP.
For those of you who are not planning on participating in the
Roadrunner Regatta, our regular practices will resume in March the
following week. Our plan is to stick with the same schedule:
Basics/Beginners on Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:30, Green Fleet on
Saturdays from 1:30 to 4:00, and Lasers from 4:00 to 6:30.
I wanted to remind everyone of the club policy concerning the club's
Optis, Picos, FJs, and Lasers. We ask that the boats are only taken
out under the supervision of myself or the Sail Training Commander
during practices, clinic, and other Sail Training events. We ask this
to ensure that the boats remain in good condition. I know many of you
would like the opportunity to use the boats for free sail or to sail
as a family. I have taken this into consideration and have decided to
open up a Free Sail on Sunday afternoons. During this time,
(tentatively from 1:00 to 4:00), I will be available at the Pavilion
to sign boats in and out and to assist with rigging, launching,
derigging, etc. I am hoping to start this up in March as well.
I am thrilled to be back on board for another year as your Roadrunner
coach! We have a lot to look forward to and I can't wait to get
started!
